American Memorial Park Quarter Ceremony, Coin Exchange and Public Forum

In late April, the United States Mint and the National Park Service will officially introduce the quarter celebrating American Memorial Park in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. This year’s second quarter ceremony will take place at the park’s amphitheater on Tuesday, April 30.

2019 American Memorial Park Quarter - Reverse
Designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, the American Memorial Park quarter for Northern Mariana Islands depicts a young woman in traditional attire at the front of the Flag Circle and Court of Honor. She is resting her hand on the plaque whose text honors the sacrifice of those who died in the Marianas Campaign of World War II. The quarter marks the second release this year and the forty-seventh in the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarter® Program.

Two conjoining events support the quarter’s public release. A coin forum sponsored by U.S. Mint officials is scheduled on the evening before the ceremony, and then there will be a traditional coin exchange right after the ceremony ends. These events are free and open to the public.

American Memorial Park quarters will actually begin their journey into general circulation on Monday, April 1, but it could be months or years before they penetrate cash registers at retail businesses because Federal Reserve Banks distribute coins to financial institutions without regard to their designs.
