Today, Sept. 9, the United States Mint released the 2014 Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarters Three-Coin Set.
This numismatic product is sold for $9.95, the same price as the last 13 sets which remain available. Subscription pricing of this year’s sets is 10% less at $8.95. Subscribers are U.S. Mint customers who made an earlier commitment to order new sets as they are released.
This latest America the Beautiful Quarter Three-Coin Set is the fourth issued this year and the 24th in the series. Coins of the set honor the national park in Colorado. Great Sand Dunes quarters entered circulation on Aug. 25, 2014 with the official launch ceremony held just last week.
Three-Coin Sets include one uncirculated coin from the Philadelphia Mint, one uncirculated coin from the Denver Mint, and one proof coin from the San Francisco Mint. A mint mark of P, D or S notates the mint of origin for each coin, and is located on the obverse (heads) side of the quarters.
As shown above, the coins are held in a durable plastic card with a picturesque park photo on front and a back that has a brief description of the national park, information about the coins and a U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity.
Great Sand Dunes Quarter Design
The reverse or tails side design features a father and son playing in the sand next to a creek bed. Behind them are the park’s distinctive mountains and sand dunes. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read: GREAT SAND DUNES, COLORADO, 2014 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Obverses or heads sides are common among all America the Beautiful Quarters, featuring the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan. Inscriptions on this side of the coin are: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.
