Last week, the U.S. Mint started selling the proof set of $1 coins celebrating innovations in Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi, along with rolls and bags of quarters honoring Maria Tallchief. The Mint’s latest sales figures show how the products performed in the early going.
Released Oct. 26 for $24, the four-coin proof set of Innovation dollars handily claimed the top spot among product sales with a four-day debut of 49,936, representing 62.4% of the possible 80,055.
In the series, this year’s set follows four preceding sets. Last year’s set achieved initial sales of 58,691 in its first six days. The proof set from 2021 recorded an opening sales figure of 53,115, whereas the 2020 set commenced with sales of 45,546. The 2019 set marked the introduction of the annual product line, garnering three-day starting sales of 43,995.

Looks to me like the novelty of the MP series has run it’s course. Month later and still 80k to sell. And the subscription still hasn’t maxed out. I dropped to just one of the 2 coin set. Usually I try to get at least 2 of the ones I think will be worth investing in so that I may keep one and sell one. But it seems purists that never seen a RP MP coin don’t want the new fangled version, right Kaiser. Perhaps everyone jumped on the fiji set that Mike put out and own the original RP… Read more »
Dazed, I did the same thing and reduced my subscription order from 3 to 2 and then again from 2 to just 1. On some of the sites the Advanced Release RP70 M/P set in pre-order is going for $450. Good luck to any fool who pays that for these coins. I think paying $185 is a bit insane, due to the high mintage numbers, but you have to pay the devil sometimes. After this purchase, there won’t be a coin I want to buy, from the Mint, until next Summer. Maybe the Mint needs a new Director. BTW, I… Read more »
Hi Craig,
I would like to thank you for offering Major D well wishes. I thought that was good of you.
Kaiser,
You’re right on that point. If I were in need of a particular coin that I couldn’t procure from the Mint and absolutely had to buy it on-line, I’d wait at least 6-8 months to let the prices come in. I never got the Advanced Release thing. Why anyone would pay extra for a coin that was conveniently released early by the Mint (and exactly the same as those available on release day) always was a mystery to me. I guess some people think collecting ‘Labels ‘ is more worthwhile than the actual coin.
I get a good idea from time to time. Maybe I catch up my late payments as the devil always gets his due, and get extended more credit to apply to creativity. I too think the coin collection days are behind me. Aside from the army coin and space force, nothing I want. And if I change my mind 20 years from now, the CotY tubman collection will still be available, maybe a bogo deal.
>> only 100,000 folk still collect coins well, depends what you mean by ‘collect coins’. there’s still a market out there for ‘investment-grade’ certified coins – PCGS even has an index (!) of them and touts it as an alternative investment to stocks and bonds (though near as i can tell there is no fund that attempts to track it). to me this isn’t really collecting coins since people are just buying them for their collector value only, not to actually look at, it’s just a matter if it is on the list or not. but there may be some… Read more »
Nice post, Kaiser Wilhelm.
Hi Dazed and Coinfused, “I can’t imagine why Jesus, such a peaceful hippie like dude would have his second coming to lead us to battle evil, you’d think the big guy could do the Thanos snap and remake the world into another eden.‘—With all the “imagining” you are doing in your post? I can “imagine” one. Because he is imaginary too. Perhaps making this world into “Eden” is our job. Seems to me a lot of people do not think we should even bother since “Heaven” is waiting for them. I will give you that you turn out good ones… Read more »
Sadly it is looking like the holy war will reveal who is the real god(s), or if we’re just evolved from chaos, or if aliens are perfecting our genes to make slaves to rival all. It is rumored humans began in Africa from the primordial soup. And as I think more and more about it (despite more archeological discoveries further north finding older relics and weapons) it makes perfect sense. You can’t have soup without crackers. For Keiser, since he is newer to America, cracker is the term used to equivocate whites to the word that must not be spoken.… Read more »
“I am sure Jeff that there are many things we agree. Even as R or D or I.“—I also am sure. I am pretty sure most of us here could agree if we really take the time to listen to each other. “I’ll miss Major D. Even from day o e he didn’t like how I said hi and began slighting me. Took me a while, year or so to begin inserting veiled comments to match him.“—The thing is he was right to call you out over your tone. He may not be as patient or forgiving as me, but… Read more »
First posts were strictly coin and metal. Your boy Major D clumped me in with Senza (apparently agreed with something I said) and occasionally would jump back into conversation and be passive aggressive with his remarks. Then he started more frequently. As far as political I think those started when biden won. And comments mentioning blacks, is pushing back on the news of the day. Constantly blaming others for their problems. I’m sure they have some valid claims, but from my experience (what I’ve seen and was told to me and experienced) they have lots of help and aid. It’s… Read more »

Then he started more frequently.“—-Yes, I thought that I liked your first comments. I am a loner. I do not want anyone following me, and I am not going to be following anyone else either. Someone wants to walk next to me for a while, they are welcome. I am going to assume you did not think while typing “your… Read more »
Humanities insatiable taste to be right. No matter what it is, someone will take the opposing view. And even when proven wrong usually doubles down. Notice in history when war first documented. A divergence of religion. From pagans praising the stars, the animals, and respecting the force a d partaking in witchcraft, to those that worship the sun, a resurrector, etc. And then greed took over and Tuts father proclaimed monotheism and once he and wife dead, the locals erased them from history, mostly. And to prevent being mobbed I think Tut went with the masses and returned to polytheism.… Read more »
Higgs boson. I knew my mind would click sooner or later, or was it self destruct? And where is that ticking sound coming from
FYI,
Breaking news from this morning: The U.S. Mint is NOT going to produce the 2024 FH silver medal or the 2025 FH $100 gold coin as planned! The advisors said “No!”. Very interesting…

LOL Seth, we were probably composing at darn near the same exact time! You know what the say about Great Minds? Haha They have “Uncommon Sense”. If everyone could think like that, it’d be called common sense! IMO We need more people with uncommon sense, as common sense has gotten us where? Possibly nominated for a “Darwin” award? LOL After all, what could possibly go wrong?
CaliSkier,
Funny pic! Thanks for the laugh, as I needed it badly…

Seth I’m glad the picture could provide some needed levity! Here’s another you may find quite amusing as well? Hang in there!
The problem with common sense is usually nobody is able to make change. Get it. Lol. I’ll see myself out
Careful, Thomas Payne wrote Common Sense and he was a slave owner. You walk unstable ice. Seth referring to a CW book of coins was taboo enough in this day and age. Oh well, just a couple more teens that’ll suffer ptsd and have to see a shrink so they can get Adderall
Alert! Coin World has broken or breaking news(maybe it appeared elsewhere first?) re: 2024 Flowing Hair Medal and Au Coin. The US Mint has pulled the designs from the program? They relayed they would publish more later, so all we know is it’s not happening or happening with that 1794 design. For convenience I’ve included the link to the Coin World.Bulletin. “News bulletin: Mint withdraws 1794 dollar designs from American Liberty program” by William T. Gibbs.

Well. 230th anniversary seems odd. They should have done it 5 years ago or wait til 2044 to mark the 250th.
Don’t worry. Just scream racist and someone will jump to your rescue and do the math for you. And if the numbers don’t come out in your favor, just change the laws and the words used and problem solved. Example, inflation used to be calculated by using staples of Americans, now to save face and project the outcome desired, the products and services used are more focused on trivial and non related items. Kinda like, it isn’t looting, it’s reappropriatation of goods. It’s not theft, it’s starving people harvesting bartering aids to feed their families. It isn’t slavery, it’s undocumented… Read more »
Now before Jeff goes all black this, black that, no vote this etc, here’s a reference for you. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/11/06/africa/mrbeast-100-wells-africa-intl-scli/index.html As you can see. It must be written that they imply their disgust of whites. Must say for 15 years try to fix it and here comes a popular white guy and suddenly everything is fixed. See not happy even when you help. Also consider, that this is the same Kenya good Ole obammy is from (rumored to be born in, Hillary started that rumor… Trump ran with it) his popular following didn’t fix it. Hmmmm. Maybe Mr beast has finally… Read more »
Did you actually read anything about this? I refuse to use CNN for a source just like I refuse to use Fox. Didn’t we just talk the other day about how you do not click links and neither do I? I am guessing if I did read the CNN one, the article would still have no connection to your “conclusions”. How about copy/pasting a sentence or two from your article that backs up any one of your “conclusions” above? I saw on a MSN.com article from today (Nov 7) by “Zuri Anderson” (“Mr. Beast’s ‘100 Wells In Africa’ Video Sparks… Read more »
Hi Dazed and Coinfused, “Don’t worry. Just scream racist and someone will jump to your rescue and do the math for you.“—I am hearing some racist scream instead. On a coin site. “And if the numbers don’t come out in your favor, just change the laws and the words used and problem solved.“—Trumps’ motto. “Example, inflation used to be calculated by using staples of Americans, now to save face and project the outcome desired, the products and services used are more focused on trivial and non related items.“—-Those pesky minorities. How did they get the experts to change which items… Read more »
It was all a big joke in my opinion. They built a big Rock Hall and then Rock music lost its popularity. Since it was not about Rock it was about Money (not Eddie), they had no problem adding Pop, Hip Hop, Rap, and anything else that had an audience. Now, every type of modern Music Lover has some reason to visit, they think. They might as well re-name it “Whatever makes us money” hall of fame. They could have opened different halls in different cities, still under their management in New York, tied to each type of music to… Read more »
Innovation Dollar – I hadn’t noticed this before (kind of hard to see it in the plastic case), but the lettering on the sides is not like the uncirculated versions. The uncirculated varieties can be right side up or other way around, often weak in spots, etc. All the proofs are in the exact same position, right side up (if you are looking at the reverse of the coin) and all clearly legible, no weak spots.
I did find an interesting article on the lettered edging pointing out some varieties

Unfortunately the mint uses mostly head shot and busts for coins. Except walking and standing liberty of course. With that said, it will be hard to determine if the pic is AI generated since we can’t look at the hands to see if they are all messed up.
Mint should do a stick figure series.
