US Mint Sales: Lower Bullion, Suspensions Trip Collector Silver Products

1

2011 Uncirculated American Silver EagleLower precious metals have spurred United States Mint sales of investment-grade bullion coins but they have been detrimental, along with resulting coin suspensions, to collector silver products.

The Mint suspended silver products on Monday, September 26, when silver tumbled $10+ to below $30 an ounce. The latest United States Mint sales figures show totals lower than last week's report for each of the suspended silver coins.

As cancellations and returns crept in, the uncirculated American Silver Eagle suffered the biggest blow. It plunged 11,476 to 182,524. Five silver products had their sales trimmed [...]

Precious Metals CommentaryThe precious metals markets opened 'in the green' but gold parted company with the rest of the complex and headed a tad lower. Spot New York dealings opened with a loss of $4.6 for the yellow metal; its bid-side quote was indicated at $1,638.00 the ounce.

Bounce-backs to perhaps as high a level as $1,700 are feasible as the metal consolidates from its recent $1,532 low but the next target (as opined by EW analysis) appears to be [...]

These sixteen Year of the Dragon Gold and Silver Bullion Coins are spread across nine different 99.99% pure gold strikes and seven composed of 99.9% pure silver.

Each of the bullion coins features the image of a mythical dragon which is the fifth creature to be celebrated as part of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Under that zodiac, those born between the upcoming Chinese New Year of January 23, 2012 and the end of that 12-month calendar on February 09, 2013 are said to be born in the Year of the Dragon. Gold Prices Advanced 1.6%, Silver Gains 1.7%

Fine Gold BarsGold prices bounced 1.6% higher Wednesday after falling 2.5 percent in the previous session. Bargain hunting and a weaker U.S. dollar were among factors analysts cited for gains.

"Physical demand has been reinvigorated at these price levels," Suki Cooper, an analyst at Barclays Capital in New York, said in a report cited on Bloomberg.

Gold prices advanced $25.60, or 1.6 percent, to close at $1,641.60 an ounce in the [...]

In The Lead – Dancing The Night Away

Precious Metals CommentaryThe carnage in certain commodities continued on Tuesday and some of the price-damaging selling sprees extended into this morning as well. After having dipped some 5% from recovery levels and after having touched values under the $1,600 mark for the second time in a week, gold prices fell about 1% in early morning dealings on Wednesday.

A slightly lower dollar and a 3% recovery in crude oil (factors whose respective strength and decline had been cited as having contributed to gold's Tuesday slide) did not manage to lend any assistance to the yellow metal this time around. Aggressive fund liquidations kept the pressure on and the precious metals all opened solidly lower for the midweek session [...]

US Mint May Cut Collector Gold Coin Prices for 4th Straight...

3

Proof and Uncirculated 2011 Lucy Hayes First Spouse Gold CoinsCollectors should watch for the United States Mint to slash prices on 14 numismatic gold coin products mid-Wednesday, based on the bureau's pricing policy and the recent southerly direction of precious metals.

Highlighting gold's extreme volatility of late, if the cuts happen as expected, they would mark a fifth straight week that the United States Mint adjusted its gold coin prices and a fourth consecutive week that they have become cheaper [...]

Gold Falls 2.5%, Silver Tumbles 3.1%

Fine Gold BarsGold declined for the first time in three sessions, giving back more than it gained during the previous two. Europe's debt crisis, a firmer greenback and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's sour assessment of the U.S. economy damaged Tuesday's appeal for precious metals, opined analysts.

Gold prices fell $41.70, or 2.5 percent, to settle at $1,616.00 an ounce in the December futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold touched an intraday low of $1,613.00 and reached a high at $1,681.50 [...]
