NGC Auction Central Resource Tool for US Coin Auctions
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation announced a new resource tool for past and future auctions of NGC-certified US coins. Named "NGC Auction Central," it offers a centralized location to find realized coin prices and upcoming offerings from leading auction houses around the U.S.
The following is the statement released Monday, October 3, by NGC. It is published in its entirety.
In The Lead – Hubble Bubble Trouble
Some and eventually more than all of Monday's gains in gold were handed back by speculators this morning as a further rise in the US dollar and a hefty slide in crude oil made life a tad more difficult for the bulls in the yellow and white metals.
Spot New York dealings opened with a loss of $11 in gold and a bid-side quote at the $1,650.00 pivot point. Silver fell 14 cents to start off the session at $30.35 after having itself nearly touched the $30 pivot figure in early dealings [...]
American Gold Eagle Bullion Coin Sales Retreat in September 2011
Unlike Silver Eagles which exploded last month, demand for American Gold Eagle bullion coins retreated in September 2011 compared to August's gold rush. The pace slowed as sales of the 22-karat gold investment grade coins slid in at 91,000 ounces after raking in 112,000 ounces in the prior month.
The month came in sixth out of nine in 2011, which has been a strong year for the 22-karat gold bullion coins, but it was not a weak month when looking at Septembers of the past. In that category, it was the fifth best September since the series started, and it was higher than last year's, which hit 88,000 ounces [...]
September 2011 Sales of American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins Set Record
Another month in 2011 wrapped up, and another sales record was set. Last month ended up earning the "Best Ever September" and the second best month in the history for the American Eagle Silver bullion coin.
September started off very slow compared to the prior month, only 175,000 had been purchased in the first eight days and still less than 1 million by mid-month. Once the price of silver tumbled, however, from around $40 to $30 an ounce, sales of the American Eagle Silver began to soar. Buyers picked up 3,534,500 in the last half of the month, which moved September sales to 4,460,500 [...]
Gold, Silver Prices Rise Over 2% in Fourth-Quarter Start
U.S. gold and silver climbed over 2 percent Monday to start the fourth quarter higher after each registered contrasting performances in the third quarter.
"We have the start of a new quarter, and gold prices typically respond very well toward the end of the year because of seasonal demand. That has attracted a lot of investors today," said Phillip Streible, senior market strategist at futures broker MF Global, according to Reuters.
Gold prices advanced $35.40, or 2.2 percent, to $1,657.70 an ounce in the December futures contract on the [...]

COINS Act Would Eliminate Dollar Bill, Replace with $1 Coin
Members of the United States Congress are once again seeking a change to the status quo of the $1 coin. However, unlike other recent attempts to actually end or severely limit production of the coins, this newest piece of legislation would ramp up $1 coin production with the goal to eventually replace the paper dollar bill.
The Currency Optimization, Innovation and National Savings Act, or COINS Act, was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives as H.R. 2977 on September 20, 2011 by Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona. Schweikert, a member of the House Financial Services Committee and the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy, introduced the COINS Act as a means to [...]
In The Lead – Go Tell The Spartans: We Don’t Buy...
Following its worst monthly performance in three years, gold enjoyed a successful attempt at starting the new one off on the right foot this morning. In various gold-oriented forums the "all-clear" signal has already been sounded and the declaration that the bottom (and a "V" shaped one, at that) has been put into place is plainly visible and audible.
However, reflecting the recent, four-week-long meltdown in prices, UBS analysts reduced their spot gold projected prices for the 3 and the 1-month average by 7.1 and by 9 percent respectively [...]
Gold Marks 12th Quarterly Gain, Silver Falls for Quarter, Silver Eagles...
U.S. gold prices rose modestly Friday, capping a 12th straight quarterly gain. Despite a sharp 11.4 percent drop in September, the yellow metal advanced 8.0 percent in third quarter 2011.
On Friday, gold prices climbed $5.00, or 0.3 percent, to settle at $1,622.30 an ounce in the December futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold ranged from an intraday low of $1,607.80 to a high of $1,642.50 [...]
In The Lead – Medium Rare
Friday's market action in precious metals got off to a bit of a mixed and rocky start as the US dollar continued its ascent on the trade-weighted index and as traders began to square books and close the trading logs on a quarter that will still go down in the record books as the worst one since 2008. The yellow metal has lost about 11% on the month in a negative performance reminiscent of October of that somber year.
Gold suffered its seventh worst week in 40 years with its recent plunge. Spot gold opened with a very tentative $4.80 gain that turned to a $4.60 loss within the first half-hour of trading. Silver never really got [...]
