In The Lead – All The Gold In The World…

Precious Metals CommentaryThe US dollar and stock index futures frowned upon the GDP estimate and headed lower. The development may give gold players another chance at trying to go for the assault on the $1,660-$1,675 resistance area provided the dollar keeps at lower levels and provided the euro does not suffer too much in the wake of the Spanish debacle.

Spot gold dealings started off with a modest, $1.30 per ounce decline in New York. Bullion was bid at $1,655.80 on the open. Silver climbed 4 cents to the $31.13 mark per ounce. Platinum added $3 at $1,568 while palladium [...]

Gold prices for June delivery gained $18.20, or, 1.1%, to $1,660.50 an ounce on the Comex in New York. Intraday prices reached a low of $1,642.50 and a high of $1,662.00 [...]

2012 Proof American Gold Eagle CoinDebuting sales figures are in for the five 2012 Proof American Gold Eagle products. Between the Gold Eagles' release on Thursday, April 19, and through to Monday, April 23, the United States Mint registered total sales of $8,245,152.00.

The tally is a bit underwhelming when contrasted against last week's reported proof Silver Eagle sales debut of nearly $18 million or, for that matter, when compared against the opening sales of last year's 2011 Proof American Gold Eagle coins which hit more than $27.7 million or the 2010-dated issues which topped $43.3 million [...]

In The Lead – There’s Gold (and Platinum Galore) in Them...

Precious Metals CommentaryIf it's Wednesday, it must be...Fedsday. The markets opened flatter than a griddle cake this morning as everyone opted to remain in suspended animation ahead of the non-event that the Fed's statement will likely turn out to be in the opinion of many. Spot gold treaded water at the $1,640 mark while spot silver tried to cling to the $31 level per ounce.

Gold's last/best chance to try for the $1,650 target ahead of the Fed today comes from a lower-than-expected US durable goods orders figure and the flicker of a QE3 hope that such a metric might give rise to among speculators [...]
