Chaco Culture Quarter Three-Coin SetNewly released United States Mint sales figures reflect softer demand for numismatic products which include the debuting American Gold Eagles and Chaco Culture Quarter Three-Coin Set.

Placed on sale last Tuesday, April 17, the Chaco Culture Quarter Set started with sales of 10,666. That was down 725 from the previous set's open, but it was stronger than several other debuts. 2012 Proof American Gold Eagle CoinDebuting sales figures are in for the five 2012 Proof American Gold Eagle products. Between the Gold Eagles' release on Thursday, April 19, and through to Monday, April 23, the United States Mint registered total sales of $8,245,152.00.

The tally is a bit underwhelming when contrasted against last week's reported proof Silver Eagle sales debut of nearly $18 million or, for that matter, when compared against the opening sales of last year's 2011 Proof American Gold Eagle coins which hit more than $27.7 million or the 2010-dated issues which topped $43.3 million [...]

In The Lead – There’s Gold (and Platinum Galore) in Them...

Precious Metals CommentaryIf it's Wednesday, it must be...Fedsday. The markets opened flatter than a griddle cake this morning as everyone opted to remain in suspended animation ahead of the non-event that the Fed's statement will likely turn out to be in the opinion of many. Spot gold treaded water at the $1,640 mark while spot silver tried to cling to the $31 level per ounce.

Gold's last/best chance to try for the $1,650 target ahead of the Fed today comes from a lower-than-expected US durable goods orders figure and the flicker of a QE3 hope that such a metric might give rise to among speculators [...]

US Mint May Cut Gold Eagles, Other Numismatic Coin Prices

2012-W $50 Proof American Gold Eagle CoinThere is a chance that the United States Mint will reduce numismatic gold coin prices on Wednesday, if the trend of gold prices on the London Fix continues to ride under the $1,650 per ounce marker.

The U.S. Mint uses a London Fix weekly gold average to determine whether to keep gold coin prices the same or adjust them up or down. The average is calculated from the Thursday AM Fix through to the Wednesday AM Fix, and then it is compared against the Mint's pre-set coin price grid [...]

Fine Gold BarsGold and silver prices each rebounded 0.7% Tuesday after gold settled in the previous session its lowest level in more than two weeks and silver plummeted by 3.5%. Gains were attributed to a weakened U.S. dollar.

"News of some stability in Europe is pushing the dollar lower," Sterling Smith, a market analyst at Country Hedging in St. Paul, Minnesota, said in a telephone interview that was cited on Bloomberg. "People are willing to consider riskier assets today."

Gold prices for June delivery went up $11.20 to $1,643.80 an ounce on the Comex in New York [...]
