Precious metals rallied in the first trading day in the second quarter with gains of 0.5% for gold, 1.9% for silver, and 0.7% for platinum and palladium.

The Perth Mint of Australia is upping the ante with the release of a unique 2012 Year of the Dragon Silver Coin Set. Chaco Culture Quarters Available in Bags and Rolls
A new design on a U.S. quarter launched Monday, April 2, 2012. The United States Mint began selling 2012 Chaco Culture National Historical Park Quarters in bags and rolls at 12:00 noon Eastern Time, and the Federal Reserve Bank System released the new coins into public circulation.

The first session of the new quarter commenced on an upbeat note for all of the precious metals, save gold, this morning. The yellow metal opened on the weak side, showing a bid-side quote at $1,665 as against a marginally higher US dollar (79.01 on the index) and a fall of 50 cents in black gold.

Last listed at a price of $1,004.00, the U.S. Mint website is showing the proof version of the Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin as "Sold Out" while the uncirculated coin remains available for $991.00.
