Earlier this week a generous and anonymous donor placed a one-half ounce American Gold Eagle coin into a Salvation Army kettle.

More reports of kind-hearted donations dropped into the traditional red kettles have followed.

Today, the Sioux City Journal reported donations of a quarter-ounce gold South African Krugerrand turning up outside a Kmart on Monday and then a one-ounce Krugerrand on Wednesday.

We thought we’d try something new and unusual. Let’s get a little casual and throw a little fun into the mix! It is Friday after all.

I was on YouTube last night and I happened along a video. I just had to pass it around.

The video has been online for over a year, it has coins and it’s been seen over 660,000! You can’t lose with that, right?

Even if you’ve already seen it, it’s worth another watch. It really is.

The video is called ‘Coin dominoes‘. Supposedly, there are 10,000 pound coins set up. I’d have to say that count is close.

London is the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. Billions will be spent on infrastructure and other improvements in supporting the Olympic Games.

To hit timelines and get ready for the games, construction work has already begun.

That work has resulted in interesting archeological discoveries while digging for the planned Aquatics Centre in Stratford, east London.

In what looks to be an area that was once a small settlement, pottery from the 4th century and an old Roman coin were found buried beneath a river wall.

Last week was Queen Elizabeth’s and Prince Philip’s 60th - the Diamond - Wedding Anniversary. Anyone’s 60th wedding anniversary deserves some news time and a shout of congratulations.

A royal 60th anniversary is on a completely different scale. And perhaps more so deserved as it was the first diamond wedding anniversary in British royal history.

To honor the occasion, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were celebrated with anniversary coinage. They have commemorative coin tributes for their 60th anniversary in at least three different countries.

Coin collectors have been awaiting for the expected announcement and it’s here.

It’s the 10th anniversary for the American Eagle Platinum coins and to celebrate, the U.S. Mint has changed it up with a limited edition, two-coin set that’s just for collectors.

Included in the set is one proof coin and, for the first time ever, one enhanced reverse proof platinum coin. Each contains one-half ounce of .9995 platinum.

Get your money ready, because the sets go on sale through the U.S. Mint website beginning December 13, 2007, at 12 noon (ET).

The U.S. Mint announcement showing artist renderings of the final 2008 state quarters proved to be popular with the media, which provides another barometer reading that underscores the success of the 50 States Quarters® Program.
