In The Lead – Everything Has a Price

Bullion BarsGold prices opened with double-digit gains on Thursday and touched $1,817.90 per ounce ahead of the New York session's start even as the US dollar reclaimed the 74.00 level on the trade-weighted index. For a change (but not much of one) silver tried to keep in lockstep with gold but managed only a 20 cent rise out of the market's starting gate (to $40.44).

In day-to-day reversal of fortunes, platinum and palladium declined as some profit-taking emerged in the wake of yesterday's rallies and as the impact of demand-based apprehension made itself felt in the trading pits. The former lost $1 (quoted at $1,836) and the latter fell $5 (to $767) as the action got underway in New York. [...]

ANA, PNG Announce Improvements for 2012 Official Pre-Show in Philadelphia

Promptly responding to dealers' comments about the first Official ANA-PNG Pre-Show in Chicago, leaders of the American Numismatic Association and the Professional Numismatists Guild have announced significant changes for next year's event in Philadelphia.

"There's always room for improvement in any show, but I think we laid a good foundation in our first attempt at a joint event, and the next show will be even better," said incoming ANA President Tom Hallenbeck. "We have constructive ideas for Philadelphia in 2012 and when we return to the Chicago area in 2013."

Leaders of the ANA and PNG met on August 15, 2011 during the pre-show in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois to take action on dealers' concerns. Among the [...]

Bullion BarsPrecious metals markets opened steady-to-higher for the midweek session in New York this morning.

While gold and silver made only very modest advances that threatened to turn into potential losses, platinum and palladium staged fairly hefty rallies at the start of the trading day.

Spot gold opened flat at $1,787.00 the ounce on the bid-side while silver gained a quarter to open at $40.16 the ounce. Overcoming the $40.50 area is still the white metal's "task" in order to try to draw near an ultimate short-terms potential target around $42.30 per ounce [...]

Bullion BarsA second session of gains was on tap for gold as some buyers returned to the market in the wake of the yellow metal's ability to regain the $1,770.00 value zone and as the rising concern over Europe's economic fate motivated others to place additional bets on bullion. Spot dealings in New York opened with a $12 per ounce gain in the gold pits and the indicated bid-side quote was $1,778.00 an ounce.

Today's gains once again (as in several previous wild sessions last week) came not at the expense of the US dollar and not in concert with rising black gold, and-for a change-they were also [...]
