PNG 2011 Award Winners Announced
The Professional Numismatists Guild announced winners of the organization's 2011 awards at the PNG Day summer banquet, August 15, 2011, on the eve of the American Numismatic Association World's Fair of Money in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois.

U.S. gold futures advanced 0.9 percent Monday, breaking a two-day losing streak. A weaker U.S. dollar was credited for bolstering investments in the yellow metal.
"The weaker dollar is definitely providing some support" to gold, Matthew Zeman, a strategist at Kingsview Financial in Chicago, said in a telephone interview, according to Bloomberg. "The market will likely remain rangebound as people are returning to equities because of positive economic numbers."

Hayes Presidential Dollar Launch Ceremony and Coin Exchange on August 18
The U.S. Mint announced plans to host a public launch ceremony and coin exchange for the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential $1 Coin on August 18, 2011. The dollar is the third of four 2011 Presidential $1 Coins.

Monday morning's markets saw a lower opening in gold but a tad higher values in the other components of the complex. Gold continued to be sold off and it lost $10.60 per ounce (to $1,735.70) out of the starting gate as risk appetite made a tentative reappearance among market participants, as it also did on Thursday and on Friday.

U.S. gold futures fell for a second straight day, but emerged 5.5 percent higher than last Friday and extended its streak of weekly gains to six.

US Mint Suspends Sales of 2011 Commemorative Gold Coins
Raging gold prices are disrupting United States Mint gold coin sales. The bureau on Friday stopped selling commemorative gold coins just three days after a similar suspension was implemented throughout collector pieces, including the American Gold Eagles, American Gold Buffalo and each of the First Spouse Gold Coins. The suspensions came as melt values of the coins raced toward their retail prices.
