US Mint Sales: 2009 Proof Sets Shine, Presidential Dollar Sets Pass...
The latest round of US Mint coin sales is near a reversal of last week when activity had picked up almost across the board and several milestones had been breached.
This week there are just a few bright spots to talk about... many of the numbers are simply less than exciting. The highlights follow:
-
The 18-coin clad 2009 Proof Set was one of the standouts, with weekly sales higher for a third straight time. Numbers soared another 40,511. That compares to the prior 27,913 increase which followed an 18,448 gain.
-
2009 Presidential Dollar Proof Sets also shined, albeit less bright. Numbers increased 3,196 versus the previous 2,805. They also topped 600,000.
US Mint 2009 UHR Double Eagle Limits Lifted Sept. 21
UHR $20 Gold Coin order limits will be eliminated on Monday, Sept. 21, the United States Mint announced Wednesday. It is the third change in recent months in a US Mint effort to smartly ratchet up order limits to "ensure the broadest and most fair product access."
The US Mint has added a new message to its online store that states:
Effective September 21, 2009 at 9:00 am (ET): The United States Mint will remove the household order limit on the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin.
UHR coin sales spiked immediately after July 27 when the Mint raised the limit from one to 10 UHRs per household. They began declining following the second limit increase of 10 to 25 on Aug. 31, however, indicating a top order threshold was no longer needed.
