August was a busy month for the United States Mint with a string of popular silver and gold product launches. None were released last week, however, and as a result no products logged huge sales gains during the time. The clad and silver 2021-dated proof sets returned as the top two weekly sellers.
The third best performer was the U.S. Coast Guard 2.5 Ounce Silver Medal. Released Aug. 17 and still available for $160, the large 2-inch diameter medal advanced another 530 units during its first full week of sales. As of Sunday, Aug. 29, collectors scooped up 8,743 of the allotted 10,000.
In the same week, on Aug. 19, the Mint released the 2021-W $100 Proof American Liberty Gold Coin. It sold out in about 24 hours. The Mint adjusted its sales slightly, raising them 14 to 12,388. The 24-karat gold coin’s mintage limit is 12,500.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 299 numismatic products. Fifty-five of them outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 26 previously. Two products increased by more than 1,000 units against 3 in the previous report.
In addition, 10 products saw their sales reduced compared to 16 previously. The reductions ranged from 2 to 2,571with the latter tagged to the already mentioned Peace dollar.

All very odd. With the money not actually taken out of accounts, it isn’t really a sale, just a commitment at this stage.
On my card, the “pending” charges have disappeared, there is just nothing. So I am needing to make sure there is enough balance available when these charges finally appear.

Question….do they ACTUALLY mint these coins to the limit all at one time…..or mint as they go?. I know this brings up the problem of unsold that should TECHNICALLY get melted afterward IF any remained….which we all gather they havent done since there are some coins that end up over minted from bulk purchases or so it seems.Man i would LOVE to see thier accounting books!
It does make you wonder. The American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin does my head in. https://catalog.usmint.gov/american-liberty-225th-anniversary-gold-coin-17XA.html 34,000 sold, of a mintage of 100,000. Yet 4 years later, it is still available to purchase. Did they mint 100,000 and the rest are they sitting on a shelf? That’s over $180M worth of inventory for one coin. Do you really think the Mint would melt the unsold 2017 Liberty coins? My God, that would scream of racism! I don’t believe our institutions, hell our country, could survive such an act.

I think the biggest “draw” to the Morgan and Peace Dollar releases is what they are inherently….2 beloved coin designs by the numismatic community. In my opinion their ultimate value will be stacked upon rich histories of both designs….hence the actual demand by true collectors. I missed out on the D and S morgans….which im ok with . Sir Kaiser, as you have pointed out the sales reductions of the 2021 Philly Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars are indeed shocking, especially in context that these two coins out of the set of six were to have been most sought after and popular for various reasons (e.g., they actually represented the 100 year anniversary issues from 1921). The silver lining to this version of the Mint’s “Calamity Over the Comstock” is that these 2021 issues may just be a 1-year/1-Hit wonder and not made into an annual series program. Well, maybe we can attribute the drops to one of these “off-the-wall” reasons! 1) the US Mint is performing detailed forensics of the purchases and are invalidating purchases from BOTs and known associates of buying clubs. 2) the dealers know when orders will open for the remaining unsold coins. In order to save the “bounty” money paid to their legions of buyers, they are cancelling their orders. Well the status of all my orders over the last few months have changed from PROCESSING to BACK ORDER.
They had been happily sitting as PROCESSING for so long, that the sudden change has me a little nervous

In case you have not heard. Ebay is forcing the pre-sale sellers to cancel all pre-sale orders and do refunds to the buyers. The long term pre -sale window is now a problem with Ebay policy. I just got a refund for the Morgan “D” issue that I was shut out by the mint for. any one else get this msg?
