Australian bullion sales at The Perth Mint slowed in May, with declines in both gold and silver products ending a rebound that had gained momentum in previous months. The pullback came amid mixed precious metal prices, as gold slipped while silver advanced, and as customers remained focused on quality despite shifting market conditions, according to the Mint.
The Perth Mint’s General Manager of Minted Products, Neil Vance, acknowledged the slowdown in demand.
"Precious metal markets naturally ebb and flow, but what remains constant is the trust our customers place in the quality and craftsmanship of our Minted Products," Vance noted.
The Mint’s sales occurred against a backdrop of diverging precious metal prices. According to LBMA data for May, gold fell 0.7% while silver rose 2.6%.
Perth Mint Gold Bullion Sales in May
Gold coin and bar sales at The Perth Mint totaled 28,244 ounces in May, the lowest monthly figure since February. The decline followed two straight months of accelerating gains and represents a 35.4% drop from April, though sales were still 21.5% higher than in May 2024.
Through the first five months of 2025, gold sales have reached 156,146 ounces – up 7.8% from 144,804 ounces during the same period last year.
Perth Mint Silver Bullion Sales in May
The Perth Mint’s May sales of silver coins and bars reached 496,707 ounces, down 31.4% from April and 37.7% below the level from May 2024. The decline ends a two-month streak of strengthening gains that had pushed monthly sales to their highest point since December.
Year-to-date silver sales reached 2,831,080 ounces, down 31.3% from the 4,118,519 ounces reported over the same stretch in 2024.
