Not surprisingly, the U.S. Mint’s new 2022-S Proof American Silver Eagles was its top weekly seller. Released Aug. 9 for $73, the 1-ounce silver coin from the San Francisco Mint was unavailable within 24 hours of its launch.
U.S. Mint sales place the single option coin (product code 22EM) at 198,946 and the 40-coin option for bulk buyers (product code 22EM040) at 722 for a combined total of 227,826 coins.
More of the coins may become available later as a result of order reconciliations. The Mint’s product page for the coin has its “Remind Me” option up. In addition, another 50,000 are reserved for the 2022 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set which the Mint has scheduled for release on Oct. 26.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 250 numismatic products. Fifty-six outperformed their prior weekly gains against 55 previously. Not counting the new proof Silver Eagle to compare apples to apples, 3 products increased by more than 1,000 units compared to 5 in the prior report.
In addition, 7 of the Mint’s products registered negative weekly sales compared to 9 in the last sales report. All the reductions were modest.

This is what Coin World reported: The eight-coin 2022 Limited Edition Proof Silver set scheduled for release sometime this fall by the U.S. Mint will be limited to an issue of 50,000 sets at $201 per set. The coins in the set will be made of .999 fine silver. Major, maybe the surprise is “Will it have a S or W proof American Silver Eagle?” Coin World (March 22, 2002) says “W” and CoinNews (August 17, 2022) says “S” and the US Mint 2022 Product Schedule listing for the set only says “S”

Antonio and Sir Kaiser, I forgot the mention a more recent Coin World article that Major D had pointed out regarding the S Proof ASE being included in the 2022 LESPS. The Coin World article Limited-edition American Eagle $1 enrollments closed, published July 29, 2022, states: “In addition, the Proof 2022-S American Eagle dollar is to be included in the 2022 Limited Edition Silver Proof set, which will be offered later this year.”
Either way, whether S or W, a ASE will be part of the Limited Edition Silver Proof set this year.
That would be a safe assumption.

There are no silver blanks to produce proof S Morgan and Peace dollars for this year?
But next year’s offerings look so good. Do you think they’ll nix the whole offering and end it with no more? That would be sad.

Proofs and burnished coins are a tad expensive right now but only time will tell how much value they’ll be worth. What’s the definition of limited anyway? 75K, 20K, 10K? Again, time will begin to set the true market price for them not the ginned up hype some folks (and Mint officials) are trying to force unto the market.
Yes Kaiser, there are sellers who pull the wool over many buyers peddling bullion as something else. Or if the seller is coy, just states American Silver Eagle without specifying bullion, burnished or proof leaving it up to the buyer to believe they’re getting what they want – proof at a cheaper price. 🙁
