2011-W Uncirculated American Gold Eagle Sells Out, New Mintage Low
Coin collectors can no longer look to the United States Mint for the 2011-W Uncirculated American Gold Eagle. The Mint sold out of the one ounce, 22-karat American Gold Eagle on Tuesday, January 17.
Unlike other numismatic gold products, the United States Mint never officially announced a maximum mintage for the $50 denominated coin. Guesstimating would have put it under 10,000 since the previous two one-ounce issues fell below the threshold. As it turns out, the final mintage for the 2011-dated coin could very well end below [...]
US Mint Raises Price on Proof Platinum Eagle, Gold Coins Unchanged
Collectors will now have to pay $100 more for a 2011-W Proof American Platinum Eagle after the United States Mint raised its price Wednesday from $1,692.00 to $1,792.00.
The increase follows higher precious metals prices. Platinum alone jumped $101 since the start of 2012. Pricing for the proof Platinum Eagle had most recently been reduced on December 21 when the PGM metal fell within the Mint's coin price setting range of between $1,350.00 and $1,449.99 an ounce [...]

Gold was pressured early in a bout of profit-taking following Tuesday's near $25 pick-up. Prices reached as low as $1,642.10 before recovering and then rising as high as $1,662.90 [...]

Gold Prices Rise Nearly $25, Bullion Silver Eagles Top 5 Million
Gold prices rebounded 1.5% in the start of the U.S. holiday-shortened week and after dipping nearly $17 on Friday. Gold was said to advance primarily on a lower U.S. dollar and economic news out of China.
Gold prices advanced $24.80 to $1,655.60 an ounce in the February futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold moved between $1,609.00 and $1,668.00 [...]

Precious metals joined the commodities' party this morning with fairly robust gains showing in each of the five metals we track. Rhodium was ahead by $50 at $1,300 the troy ounce.
However, not all was well on certain fronts, at least in gold and in silver. India raised its import duties on the two precious metals to 2% and to 6% respectively, from a previously flat-per-weight tariff. These are hefty increases in [...]
