Fine Gold BarsOn the final day of February, gold and silver fell from multi-month highs on the combination of profit-taking and testimony by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke which offered no hints of further monetary easing.

Gold dived by more than $77 on Wednesday, switching what had been a positive month into a losing one to the tune of 1.7% -- a lopsided flip from January when the yellow metal rallied 11.1% [...]

In The Lead – Buy the Rumor, Sell the Fact. Lather,...

Precious Metals CommentaryCertainly, albeit gold did open about $2.50 higher in New York, yesterday's enthusiasm levels were nowhere near detectable in today's initial action.

In any event, we once again were confronted with abnormal concurrent headlines that observed gold trading at a five-month high and the DJIA closing above 13K for the first time since the crisis erupted in 2008. Chalk it up perhaps to month-end book-squaring and such, but within the first half hour of trading, gold went [...]

Each week on Wednesday morning, prices are re-evaluated for United States Mint coins composed of gold and platinum. Odyssey’s Black Swan Named Sunken Coin Treasure Lands in Spain

Spain v. Odyssey Legal DisputeA story lasting over five years involving 17-tons of sunken coin treasure and legal battles is apparently ending. Spanish officials are now processing 500,000-plus gold and (mostly) silver coins along with other objects recovered from the ocean floor.

Odyssey had discovered the shipwrecked treasure in 2007 in international waters about 100 miles west of the Straits of Gibraltar [...]
