Palladium Prices Surge as Gold, Silver and Platinum Dip

2011 Garfield Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set Available
The United States Mint is close to wrapping this year up with the release of its final 2011-dated set, the Garfield Presidential $1 Coin and First Spouse Medal Set. It went on sale Thursday, December 22, at noon Eastern Time for $14.95.

ANA Extends Partnership with NGC, PMG and NCS
The ANA and Certified Collectibles Group have agreed to a five-year extension that designates Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, Paper Money Guarantyand Numismatic Conservation Services as the ANA's official grading and conservation services.

Gold Prices Dip 0.2%, Silver Declines 1%
Gold dipped 0.2% Wednesday after gaining 1.3% during the previous day. While the U.S. dollar was down Tuesday, it rebounded slightly Wednesday to again pressure metals.

PNG Sends Pledged Reward in New Jersey Coin Theft Case
The Professional Numismatists Guild (www.PNGdealers.com) has issued the first $2,500 in pledged rewards totaling $175,250 to New Jersey coin dealer Ken Starrett whose tip to investigators led to the recovery of rare coins and bank notes stolen in 2009.
PNG is alerting more than 70 other dealers who pledged the remaining amount of the total that the reward money now should be sent because a suspect in the case has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of sale or possession of stolen goods [...]
US Mint Sales: 2011 Commemorative Coins Rally in Finish
The newest United States Mint sales figures show that 2011 commemorative coins enjoyed a mini-rally during their final days as did nearly every Presidential $1 coin product. With those excluded, however, overall product sales remained a bit soft like they were this time last year. Both years the Mint has imposed Christmas shipping deadlines of December 12. That tends to drive selling volumes earlier in the month with resulting sluggishness right before the holiday.

Gold Prices Up $21 to Reclaim $1,600, Silver Advances 2.3%
Gold advanced nearly $21 Tuesday as prices closed above $1,600 an ounce for the first time since one week ago. Bargain hunting coupled with a rising euro and falling U.S. dollar were among the reasons analysts cited for the gains.

US Mint Platinum and Gold Coin Price Cuts Expected
United States Mint price reductions are likely in store Wednesday, December 21, for certain platinum and gold coins, based on the bureau's pricing policy for its collectible precious metals products. The Mint just trimmed gold coin prices on Wednesday, December 14, when the yellow metal's weekly average dropped between $1,650.00 and $1,699.99 an ounce.
