Semiquincentennial gold coins dominated much of the U.S. Mint’s weekly sales report, led by the newly released 1776 ~ 2026-W Proof American Gold Buffalo, which is already outselling last year’s issue.
The dual-dated proof Gold Buffalo would have taken the very top spot despite its hefty $5,540 launch price — since adjusted up $100 to $5,640 — but it ranked second with debut sales of 9,865 out of a possible 15,000.
2026 Congratulations Set / 2026-P Proof Silver Eagle Returns
Instead, the 2026 Congratulations Set, with its 2026-P Proof American Silver Eagle, returned to sale following an absence of more than two months and claimed the No. 1 position.
Released Feb. 26, the set originally lasted only minutes before becoming unavailable. Priced at $175, it includes the first standard, non-privy Philadelphia proof American Silver Eagle since 2000. Its 60,000 mintage is just a fraction of the 500,000 authorized for this year’s dual-dated West Point Mint version, adding to its appeal.
Its debut total was 39,195, with the Mint noting at the time that its inventory had been depleted and that more sets would be produced up to the published mintage limit. That happened when sales reopened late last week, and the set jumped by 18,995 to 59,060, nearing its allotted limit.
2026 Proof Gold Buffalo Tops 2025, Nears 2024 Total
Returning briefly to the 2026-W Proof Gold Buffalo, its debut sales have already topped those of the 2025 issue, which remains available and posted a modest gain of 3 to 7,854. The 2024 issue is also still available, with sales climbing 155 to 10,570, ranking eighth for the week. The new issue should overtake it soon.
2026 Proof Gold Eagles Prominent Again
Four of the five 1776 ~ 2026-W Proof American Gold Eagle products ranked among the Mint’s top 10 sellers for the week, while the remaining product placed 19th.
A combined 41,691 dual-dated 2026-W Proof Gold Eagles have sold since their March 5 release. The 2026 coins moved ahead of last year’s offerings within their first week of sales, with the 2025 total now at 23,126. By April 26, they had also surpassed the 2024 issues, which now stand at 38,728. The 2023 releases finished at 47,494 coins.

In its latest report, the Mint published sales data for 650 numismatic products. One product posted a week-over-week gain of more than 1,000 units, following two consecutive weeks without any.
Sales momentum increased for a second straight week, with 95 products outpacing their prior weekly gains, up from 67 in the previous report. Earlier totals were 29, 72, 77, 34, 80, 74, 57, 39, 87, 70, 56, 43, 79, 23, and 106.

Ten products registered week-over-week declines, down from 19 in the prior reporting period. Those with declines of more than two included:
