Proof American Gold Eagles again dominated the U.S. Mint’s weekly sales report, helped by a slow release calendar and the continued unavailability of many lower-priced 2026 products.
Four of the five 2026-W options ranked among the Mint’s top 10 sellers for the week ending May 3, while the remaining product placed 16th. For the second straight week, no Mint product advanced by more than 1,000 units.
The slower pace also gave several older, prior-year products room to appear among the Mint’s leading sellers, including several silver issues and multiple military-themed releases that benefited from promotions.

Early Pre-Launch 1776 ~ 2026 Proof American Gold Buffalo Sales
Mint reports often include sales for products before their official release, reflecting units allocated through programs such as subscriptions and bulk purchases by authorized dealers. CoinNews seldom highlights those figures, but the upcoming May 7 proof Gold Buffalo is worth noting given collector interest ahead of its launch.
The Mint first reported sales of 1,264 coins for the 2026-W $50 Proof American Gold Buffalo in its prior report through April 26. In the latest report, that total rose by 493 to 1,757 — a gain that would make it the Mint’s strongest weekly seller if counted with already released products.
The dual-dated coin, featuring a "250" Liberty Bell privy mark, launches Thursday at noon ET. Its initial price is expected to be posted Wednesday, May 6. The coin has a product limit of 15,000.

In its latest report, the Mint published sales data for 644 numismatic products. For the second consecutive week, no product posted a week-over-week gain of more than 1,000 units.
Sales momentum improved, with 67 products topping their previous gains, up from 29 the week before. Earlier weekly increases were 72, 77, 34, 80, 74, 57, 39, 87, 70, 56, 43, 79, 23, and 106.
Products Showing Drops
Nineteen products registered week-over-week declines, up from 12 in the prior reporting period. Most were minor, with losses of just one or two units. Those with declines of more than four included:

- 2026-D Revolutionary War Quarters in 100-Coin Bags — down 10 to 6,174
