On May 20, the United States Mint released the 2025-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle, priced at $91 – the highest debut price in the coin’s history. Struck from 1 ounce of .999 fine silver, the coin is available in two product options: individually to collectors (product code 25EG) and in 40-coin bulk packs to qualifying buyers (product code 25EG040).
According to U.S. Mint sales data through May 26, collectors purchased 71,621 coins, accounting for 79.6% of the product’s stated 90,000 mintage. That total made it the Mint’s top weekly seller, though it also marked the slowest opening for the product line to date.
For context, early sales figures for the uncirculated Silver Eagle since 2011 are as follows:
- 2024: 89,073
- 2023: 117,035
- 2022: 143,738
- 2021: 186,632

With the Federal Court ruling after hours , Gold:Silver ratio should decrease.
A previous court decision ruled exactly opposite of the Trade Court, that the President has such authority, hence the appeal was successful staying the Trade Court. No apparent impact to the Gold:Silver ratio. It appears to me that the Gold:Silver ratio presently may be the new norm, not the “traditional” or “historic” ratios of the last 50 ish years….
Thank you Mike Unser for adding the 2023 and 2024 W American Silver Eagle Uncirculated 40-coin tray options to your weekly reports!
I got a 2024D Walker quarter in change today in Manassas, Va. It still has the mint luster after traveling east. I also got a 2020P Salt River quarter in that same transaction that appears to be broadstruck. I paid cash on the transaction because the Amazon outlet charges an extra 3% for credit card transactions. They have mostly returned junk and a few good items, so I like to go by there every month or so. The broadstrike only appears on the obverse. The reverse is clearly struck. This quarter is also slightly larger in diameter than the 2024,… Read more »
Sharkie,
A “Broad Strike” occurs when the coin is struck outside of the die collar and produces a bowl-shaped coin. Since the coin showed above has a complete reeded edge that appears normal, it is not a broad strike. Your coin is weakly struck or unevenly struck.
Cheers

Thanks for the review. It obviously didn’t get struck properly. It looked like some of the examples I found online, but it was odd the reverse seemed to have been properly seated when struck. I wonder if the planchet might have been slightly out of round before being struck?? I do not see any marks where it would have been filed or ground down. This video gives a decent explanation on different strike issues. It may be the one I found was twice struck since it does have the reeding. It’s about 1/2 mm larger than the other quarters I’ve… Read more »
Sharkie, I would have to see both sides of the coin and a pick of the coin’s edge to get an idea of the metal flow. Providing that the reverse is fully struck, the P mint coin above looks to have been struck on a very worn or over polished die. The Broad Struck coins that I have demonstrate a fully detailed and well struck obverse and reverse. Furthermore, their outside diameters exceed their intended diameters by 5 to 10 mm. Additionally, the vast majority of minor error coins need to be in Mint State condition to have any real… Read more »
The 1/2 mm oversized diameter of the coin could be attributed to a worn out collar. The press that struck that coin may have been long over due for a proper tooling change (dies and collar).
Makes sense, a worn out collar & dies? I’m curious about the weight of the coin Shark, underweight?
It sure is flat down there. I’m not much into errors, but there’s a few out there that are neat. The ’55, or 72 ddo comes to mind.
There is a spectacular Mint error that has hit the market for the very first time you IKE fans ⇊
“According to error specialist Fred Weinberg, this is the only Eisenhower Dollar known with a full obverse (or reverse) image of Eisenhower struck on a feeder finger, and it is bonded onto a previously major mint error struck coin, in addition to it being the largest Ike dollar error coin known.”
https://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/1822115/Mint-Error-1972-D-Eisenhower-Dollar-Struck-on-Feeder-Finger-PCGS-MS-64
Rick,
That is definitely a “Rock Star” of an error. As the denomination increases, so does the price. How it got out of the mint could be described as nefarious. PCGS did a great job with the holder. It will probably hammer at $100K+
E 1,
I would think Stevie Wonder would’ve been able to spot this monstrosity of an error at the mint! Or maybe the quality control employee at the Denver mint was getting on a ‘Rocky Mountain high’.
Craig,
Starting in 2001, the US Mint put strict controls in-place to prevent any further striking errors from leaving their facilities. After 2001, the likelihood of finding any newer off-centered, clipped, or broad struck coins is about nil. About the only thing I see now adays in post 2001 are die cracks, struck thru grease, cuds, and the occasional 5% or less off-center. Maybe they should give Stevie his job back.
Cheers
Like the five 1913 Liberty Nickels.
Antonio,
Send us a pic or a link braaah.
That’s what I’m saying. How could there be only five? Someone at the Mint had the ability to produce a 1913 die, only mint five coins, and then they left the Mint to be sold years later. Sounds fishy. I don’t believe those coins, and others like them, are legitimate. What if five 1979 Eisenhower Dollars were discovered? Suspicious.
The worn/stretched collar seems to make the most sense based on the reeding and slightly oversized diameter.
Just an observation regarding the 1995 W gold proof set with the W ASE. APMEX has it for $9,200. It’s been at that price since before the recent gold price increase. I would have expected that set to go up with gold. Apparently, the bloom is off the W ASE.
East Coast, interesting observation. Essentially that set consists of 1.85Toz of gold valued at $6,105 at a spot melt price of $3,300. That would mean a price of $3,095 for your 1995 W ASE PF coin. That likely means that, the sets that Apmex is selling contain either a PF69 1995 W ASE or less and the Gold Eagles are also PF69 or less as well. Of course the worst case scenario, would be a 1995 W ASE with milk spots, regardless of potential grade IMO. I know E1 liquidated the majority of his ASE collection, due to milk spots.… Read more »
I am glad I purchased two sets back in 1995.
WOW! “The Great Kentucky Hoard of US Gold”.(5/9/25) If you haven’t seen this video and you’re into numismatic history and Pre 33 gold, it is a must see! The Neuman Numismatic Portal and Jeff Garrett released a video on YouTube(YT) of Jeff’s role in the handling, preservation, marketing, insuring and the disposition or sale of the “Great Kentucky Hoard”. Jeff tells the tale of how he became involved in this bit of numismatic history! 1863 Double Eagles and a slew of gold dollars. Thanks Cali, unreal stuff. I met Jeff @ a show years ago, very nice and approachable. Now, where can I find such…hmmm
I never found anything like that when I lived in Kentucky. Damn.
I remember hearing about this story. Thanks for the video, Cali.
John Q, Reb and any others that took a peek, you’re welcome! Yeah Reb I know what you mean regarding finding anything like that. The closest I came, was when growing up, I recovered about $3-$4’or so in mixed coins, consisting mainly of cents, nickels and dimes, that I think someone threw in anger at a boyfriend, 6 houses down from mine when I was about 8 years old. I thought I’d hit the jackpot, as after gathering up the spoils, I expeditiously made my way to the neighborhood 7-11, picking up a large Slurpee and literally a bag full… Read more »

Breaking news… Continued inconsistency in U.S. Mint announcements of pricing of products! SMH Typically, in the past the U.S. Mint was required or so it seems, to formally announce a products price before launch in the Federal Register. Also, increases in product pricing was or has been done in this fashion as well. Those days are over and consumers can no longer find this to be the case. Too many examples to list, however this became readily apparent when the U.S Mint jacked up prices, unannounced for their Cyber Monday sale back on November 27, 2023. The 5oz P America… Read more »
Cali, the change in prices for the Palladium Eagles are also in this category. No notice in the register. The article I read said the precious metals chart was updated, but I could not find it changed a few months ago, and my complaint to the mint was never clearly answered by the mint. They said they would respond and never did. I have not found a 2025 grid.
https://www.usmint.gov/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-USM-Library/default/dwa1c07e02/images/PDFs/2024-Pricing-Grid.pdf
Yeah Sharks2th I know what you mean when it comes to responses and lack of action by the U.S. Mint! I also received both generic and direct responses with “no action” or follow through on them actually correcting or doing what they said they would! My correspondence’s were answered, just “zero” follow through. Why bother answering or responding if you’re not going to ensure that the actions you mention can’t or won’t be taken? A classic case of bad business practice of “over promise, under deliver”! Good businesses do the opposite, “Under Promise, Over Deliver”!. The e-mails I sent that… Read more »
