Medals Honor Fallen Heroes of September 11, 2001
Men and women who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 were posthumously honored Wednesday with the presentation of three Congressional Gold Medals.
Authorized under the Fallen Heroes of 9/11, Public Law 112-76, each bears a unique design honoring the remembered fallen at the World Trade Center in New York, at the Pentagon in Virginia, and from Flight 93 in rural Pennsylvania. With last week cut short by the U.S. Labor Day holiday, United States Mint product releases were limited to 2014-W Eleanor Roosevelt First Spouse Gold Coins.
Collectors in the early going claimed 1,181 of the proof Eleanor Roosevelt gold coins and 629 of the uncirculated Eleanor Roosevelt gold coins for a total of 1,810 -- the highest start this year [...]
