Gold Rises 0.7%, Silver Advances 1.1%, American Eagles Gain
Gold prices rose 0.7% Monday after falling in four of the previous five sessions and tumbling 3.3% last week. The metal saw gains, opined analysts, in large part due to bargain hunters.
Gold prices added $11.50 to $1,667.30 an ounce in the April futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold traded between an intraday low of $1,652.30 and a high of $1,670.10 [...]
1916 Chinese Dragon Gold Dollars Struck at U.S. Mint in Philadelphia
After years of research, and convincing evidence in the form of receipts for purchases, I believe that the famous 1916 Yan-Shih-kai Dragon gold dollars were struck in the United States in 1921 for Philadelphia coin dealer Henry Chapman, and not made in China. The historic receipts will be offered in a public auction in Hong Kong in April.
1921 is an interesting era in numismatic history for it was during this period that Chapman had various coins specially made for him at the Philadelphia Mint. It is well-known and documented that in 1921 he ordered proof Morgan dollars from the Philadelphia Mint [...]
2012 Canadian Moose Silver Bullion Coin Released
The Royal Canadian Mint continues its extremely popular Canadian Wildlife silver bullion series with the recent release of the 2012 Moose Silver Bullion Coin.
As with other releases in the series, the Moose Silver Bullion Coin is struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver. A maximum mintage of 1,000,000 has been put in place.
The Moose coin marks the fourth to appear in the Canadian Wildlife silver bullion series which debuted with two [...]
In The Lead – Shifting Grounds
Gold prices retreated towards the $1,650-$1,655 area this morning as crude oil experienced a small setback and as the dollar climbed slightly on the trade-weighted index (last quoted at 79.82).
According to the latest Bloomberg survey of gold traders, the crowd is showing the lowest level of bullishness in circa sixty days in the wake of gold having erased more than half of 2012's gains recently. However, with an RSI figure nearing the 38 level (with 30 or so generally being sufficiently oversold to ignite some kind of recovery bounce) there is scope for a bit of a repair to take place in the metal [...]
Gold and Silver Weekly Losses Bullish for US Mint Coin Sales
Gold and silver were nearly unchanged Friday, but both metals logged weighty weekly losses that were triggered early in the week when Federal Reserve policy makers edged up their assessment of the U.S. economy while simultaneously dashing hopes for another round of quantitative easing. In the end, gold prices tumbled 3.3% for the week after rising 0.1% last week.
On Friday, gold prices settled down $3.70, or 0.2%, to $1,655.80 an ounce in the April futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold moved between [...]
US Marshals Service Commemorative Coins Approved in Senate
Commemorative coins honoring the 225th Anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service are likely after legislation proposing them was approved in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, March 15.
An amended H.R. 886, named the United States Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act, was approved by Unanimous Consent in the Senate exactly three months after the original bill passed in the U.S. House on December 15 [...]

In The Lead – Clear and Present Dangers
This morning's New York trading action started off on the downside once again for the metals. Gold practically erased yesterday's gains and dipped to near the $1,640 (about 2.5% under the 200 DMA) per ounce while silver also retreated from last night's closing values and dropped to near $32.20 an ounce.
This morning, gold reacted not as much to the small-to-nonexistent initial gains in the US dollar but decidedly so to the news of possible further Indian import restrictions on bullion [...]
Gold Rebounds 1% as Silver Advances 1.7%, US Gold Bullion Up...
Gold futures prices rebounded 1.0% Thursday, snapping a three-day string of losses and coming off a two-month low as prices plunged 3% on Wednesday. Gold shed $68.60 during its three-day losing streak. Bargain hunting and a weaker U.S. dollar index were among the factors contributing to gain across all precious metals, opined analysts.
After diving by more than $51 on Wednesday alone, gold prices added $16.60 to close at $1,659.50 an ounce in the April futures contract on the Comex in New York [...]
2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle Price Trimmed
Last week the United Stated Mint published a release date of April 12 for this year's 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle. This week a new notice from the bureau announced the price of the coin.
It is a tad lower than stated in a previous U.S. Mint announcement but also a bit higher than the price of last year's 2011-W Proof American Silver Eagle when it sold out. Based on a U.S. Mint notice published in the Federal Register today which was dated Monday, March 12, this year's collectible [...]
