2010 Canadian Dollar Coin Commemorates Navy’s Centennial
A new one-dollar circulation coin immortalizing the centennial of the Canadian Navy, proudly produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, was unveiled today by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada and Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces.

The unveiling took place at a luncheon celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy, hosted by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence.
The Mint will produce seven million one-dollar Canadian Navy Centennial commemorative circulation coins, which will begin circulating today [June 29) and Canadians are encouraged to look for this special coin in their change, or order it online by visiting www.mint.ca/navy.

Excitement is generally muted in the latest batch of United States Mint coin sales figures.
There were a few standouts that either jumped or passed new thresholds.
The 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars qualify for the former with sales surging 5,243, more than doubling the level of recent weekly gains. If that pace could be maintained, the commemoratives would actually sell out by year's end and join the 2010 Boy Scouts coins at 350,000. The DAV coins are currently are at 214,808 or 61.37% of their maximum. Collectors are buying 2.34 proofs for every 1 uncirculated coin.
2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coins topped 21,000. Interest in the numismatic 24-karat gold pieces have been progressively declining since their June 3, 2010 opening day, with weekly reported gains starting at 17,465 and then falling to 2,054 and now 1,540. Their bullion counterpart rose mildly by 2,000 to 160,500 for the year.

Koalas have long appeared as an iconic symbol for Australia along with their other famous marsupial, the kangaroo. Together, the creatures have graced strikes of the Perth for years, but the Proof Koala Gold Coin only made its debut in 2008. That year, an image of a cuddly koala sitting on a tree branch with its young clinging to its back was featured on the coin.
