Yosemite Quarter Mintages Revealed, Bags and Rolls Sales Debut

1

Yosemite National Park Quarter Bags and RollsThis week the United States Mint published the opening sales figures for Yosemite National Park Quarters, and with a new month beginning it also released new coin production figures that provided the preliminary 2010-P Yosemite quarter and 2010-D Yosemite quarter mintages.

Bags and rolls of the third coin released in the America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program were launched on Monday, July 26 -- the Yosemite quarter ceremonial release occurred on Thursday, July 29. Their opening sales show that collectors purchased just over 2.7 million quarter-dollars between Monday and Sunday.

That is near the level of the prior Yellowstone product debuting numbers and about 377,000 shy of the first Hot Springs sales figures. Yellowstone figures are handicapped slightly as the rolls and bags were released on a Tuesday, giving one day less of availability.

2010 American Silver EaglesAmerican Silver Eagle bullion coins turned in slightly lower numbers for July 2010 than the month before, according to the most recent figures released by the United States Mint.

While this may come as welcome news to collectors who have been hoping for a decline in the numbers to make way for proof versions, any celebration would be premature. True, sales of the strikes showed a drop of 20,000 units, but put in perspective, the decline is negligible.

Total sales for the month of July still came in at an astonishing 2,981,000. That amount was enough to cement the month as the best ever July since the debut of the coins back in 1986. In fact, it was a leap of 171,000 coins from the previous July record set just last year.
