The United States Mint at Denver offers exceptional public tours, but its doors will be shut for Democratic National Convention (DNC) attendees and everyone else during the week of the Democratic convention.
Politics? Not so, according to The Denver Post who quoted U.S. Mint Deputy Director of Public Affairs Greg Hernandez.
The Mint will not be producing coins or tours during the week of the convention (August 25-29) because it will be performing its Annual Physical Inventory (API).

Precious metals continued their downward turn Monday with gold hitting is cheapest level since December of 2007. Declining oil prices — now $114.45 a barrel — and strength in the US dollar were the cited reasons.
Silver for September was battered around, sliding 71 cents to close to $14.62 an ounce.
October platinum decreased by $24.10, falling to $1,535.50 an ounce.
December gold dropped sharply to $828.30 an ounce, losing $36.50 and 4.2%. That, after its previous weekly loss of almost 6%.

In a market-leading initiative designed to help create a new generation of coin collectors, The Perth Mint has announced Young Collectors, the first Australian legal tender coin program exclusively designed, packaged and priced for 8 to 12 year-old children.

With the number of mature-aged collectors in decline around the world, Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director Ron Currie said that the industry was in agreement that new initiatives were needed to boost participation in one of the world’s oldest hobbies.
"Young Collectors is set to tackle the challenge with a program of annual releases portraying themes appealing to children," he said. "It starts in 2008 with the release of 12 Australian Animal $1 coins on brightly illustrated information cards."
