The uncirculated Lincoln Silver Dollar sold out Tuesday, the Lincoln Cent Birthplace Rolls sold out Thursday, and the proof Lincoln dollar joined the sellout list Friday morning.

For the desperate minded collector, an attempt may still be made to place an order for the proof coin on the US Mint's website. However, visitors to the online page will be greeted with a "Waiting List Notice" and language saying orders will not be processed unless an older one is cancelled. That same notice was placed on the uncirculated Lincoln dollar page for nearly two days, until it was removed Thursday -- hours before the Lincoln two-roll sets sold out.

The Uncirculated Lincoln Silver Dollar sold out Tuesday. Orders may still be placed, but the chance for any to go through is based solely on an older order being cancelled. The latest Mint stats show a total of 135,793 have been sold, with an increase of 8,830 over the last numbers.

Sales of the proof Lincoln version will end soon. As of this writing, there are likely just hundreds left. 312,075 have been purchased. With both silver and proof options combined, 447,868 are now gone. Only 450,000 are permitted, plus another 50,000 proofs reserved for a special set yet to be announced.

Louis Braille Silver Dollars Launch

2009 Louis Braille Silver Dollars were launched in a ceremony Thursday at the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. The commemorative proof and uncirculated silver dollars celebrate the 200th birthday and the life and work of Louis Braille, inventor of the Braille system for reading and writing by the blind and visually impaired.

2009 Proof Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar

The United States Mint first released the Braille designs and a prototype in July 2008 during the NFB annual convention in Dallas, Texas. The unveiling showcased the unique silver dollar design, which US Mint Director Ed Moy told the audience about during Thursday's ceremony.

 

"For the first time in history, the United States has a coin with readable Braille. The 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar honors the developer of Braille, a tactile code that has been instrumental in the literacy and independence of the world's blind people."
