2009 Lincoln Cent Proof Set Issued

2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Proof SetThe United States Mint launched proof versions of the four newly redesigned 2009 Lincoln Cents in a single set on Wednesday, August 26.

The proof sets are priced at $7.95 each, plus shipping and handling, and will be available at noon ET. There is a limit of 5 sets per household.

The one-cent coins celebrate the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln's birth and the 100th anniversary of the first issuance of the Lincoln cent. The sets, therefore, are officially entitled as the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Proof Set.

The reverse of each cent bears a design that represents the four major aspects of Abraham Lincoln's life:

James K. Polk Presidential $1 Coin and RollsJames K. Polk Presidential $1 Coins and dollar rolls are now available following their ceremonial launch Thursday by the US Mint at Polk's ancestral home in Columbia, Tenn.

 

"The James K. Polk Presidential $1 Coin is the 11th in the United States Mint's Presidential $1 Coin Program," United States Mint Deputy Director Andy Brunhart told the crowd. "It is my great privilege to present the coin to the Nation."

 

Polk is probably best known for his support and actions relating to Manifest Destiny, which was the belief that the US had the right to expand throughout North America. In following this belief, Polk annexed the area now known as Oregon and Washington from Great Britain. He also waged war with Mexico and won California and New Mexico through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
