The Philadelphia Mint is giving visitors an opportunity to meet the people behind America’s coins and medals through three special events celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary. Beginning Thursday, Oct. 15, the public can speak directly with U.S. Mint employees involved in manufacturing coinage dies, producing collector coins and medals, and safeguarding the historic facility.
The Semiquincentennial Meet-and-Greet Series will feature a different Mint division each month through December, offering a closer look at the specialized work involved in coin production. All three events will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the grand entrance to the Philadelphia Mint’s tour gallery.
Philadelphia Mint Meet-and-Greet Schedule
| Date | Featured Division |
|---|---|
| Oct. 15, 2026 | Die Shop Division |
| Nov. 13, 2026 | Numismatics Division |
| Dec. 4, 2026 | Mint Police Division |
Three Events Highlight Different Mint Operations
The series begins Oct. 15 with the Die Shop Division, whose employees manufacture the dies used to strike U.S. coins and medals. Visitors can meet members of the team and learn how coinage dies are made and used to transfer designs onto metal during the striking process.
On Nov. 13, attention shifts to the Numismatics Division. Employees involved in producing collector coins and medals will discuss their work and the additional care required for numismatic products compared with ordinary circulating coinage.
The final event, scheduled for Dec. 4, will feature the Mint Police Division. Visitors can meet officers responsible for safeguarding employees, guests and the valuable coins and medals produced at the facility. The U.S. Mint Police is among the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement organizations.
Each event will provide an opportunity for visitors to ask questions and hear directly from employees about their responsibilities, bringing a more personal dimension to the Mint’s Semiquincentennial activities.
Visiting the Philadelphia Mint
The events will be held at the Philadelphia Mint, located at 151 N. Independence Mall East in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The facility also offers free, self-guided public tours, typically taking about 45 minutes. Reservations are not required for regular tours, which operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the last entrance at 4:15 p.m. Visitors can view coining operations from approximately 40 feet above the factory floor, although production schedules vary and coins may not be struck during every visit.
The Philadelphia Mint traces its history to 1792, when Congress established the nation’s first federal mint in the city. Today, the facility continues to play a central role in producing U.S. circulating coins and numismatic products.
Additional information about the anniversary events is available through the U.S. Mint’s official events calendar, while tour details can be found on its Philadelphia Mint visitor page.
