Candidate designs featuring DC’s Supergirl for a 2026 release in the U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program were recently presented for review. The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) evaluated the designs on Sept. 16, followed two days later by the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA). Both panels supported the same obverse, but differed on the reverse — the CCAC made a recommendation, while the CFA declined to endorse any of the proposed designs.

Supergirl joins Green Lantern (designs) and Robin (designs) in the 2026 lineup, part of a multi-year program developed through a collaboration between the Mint and Warner Bros. Discovery to celebrate nine iconic DC characters. The series debuted this year with designs for Superman (designs), Batman (designs), and Wonder Woman (designs).
Next year’s releases will again include 1/2-ounce 24K gold $50 coins and 2.5-ounce and 1-ounce silver medals, with a later set of clad medals carrying the same designs expected to follow. Each character’s artwork will appear across all formats, with distinctions such as the omission of required coin inscriptions on medals and the absence of dates on the 1-ounce silver and clad versions, since they are not limited to a single year of issue.
Supergirl Obverse Designs
The obverse designs feature iconic depictions of Supergirl.

Design O-02 was selected as the overall favorite by both the CCAC and CFA, and was also Warner Bros. Discovery’s top choice. It portrays a determined Supergirl soaring high above the clouds, her cape billowing in the wind.
Supergirl Reverse Designs
Reverse designs amplify the thematic values of bravery and grace in a manner that connects Supergirl or Supergirl’s story to American values and culture.

The CCAC selected R-05, also Warner Bros. Discovery’s preferred design, which depicts Supergirl and Krypto surrounded by a starburst effect. The medal version replaces the coin inscriptions with "SUPERGIRL," "BRAVERY LIFTS HER," and "GRACE GUIDES HER."
The CFA, however, found R-05 incompatible with the obverse, noting that it portrays Supergirl as a more ethereal figure with only a faint resemblance to her depiction on the front. The panel also observed that the imagery on both sides was too similar, creating the impression of a "double-headed" coin, and therefore declined to recommend any of the proposed reverse alternatives.
Upcoming Releases
Sales opened on July 27 for the Superman coin and medals, followed by the Batman issues issues on Sept. 25. Wonder Woman products are set to launch on Nov. 13. Bronze medals for all three are planned for 2026, along with Green Lantern, Robin, and Supergirl products, while The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman are scheduled to join the lineup in 2027.
