The United States Mint is set to launch its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program in 2025, following a licensing agreement with DC Comics, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. The series will spotlight iconic superheroes on 1/2-ounce 24K gold $50 coins, 2-1/2 ounce and 1-ounce silver medals, and 1.2-inch clad medals.
A total of nine DC characters are slated for the initial series, starting in 2025 with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Designs for Superman have already been recommended, while candidate designs for Batman and Wonder Woman were presented to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) on Nov. 19 and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) on Nov. 21.
This article focuses on CCAC and CFA recommendations for the Batman coins and medals.
CCAC & CFA Batman Design Recommendations
After discussions, both the CCAC and CFA recommended the same pairing of Batman designs – O-02 and R-02 – as seen in this article’s topmost images.
As background, the Mint collaborated with representatives from Warner Bros. Discovery during the design development process, with designs O-02 and R-02 also emerging as their preferred choices.
Below are U.S. Mint images of all proposed designs for the Batman coin and medals.
Obverse Candidate Designs for the 2025 Batman Coin and Medals
Each obverse, crafted by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, features iconic depictions of Batman.
Reverse Candidate Designs for the 2025 Batman Coin and Medals
Each reverse, created by a U.S. Mint Medallic Artists, amplifies the themes of Justice and Courage in a manner that connects Batman or his story to American values and culture.
Series Background, Limits, and Future Expectations
As planned, the series will spotlight three DC characters per year over three years, resulting in a total of nine designs. Each year’s designs will be struck in gold and silver, with the corresponding clad medals likely released the following year. All pieces are expected to feature a proof finish.
No mintage or sales time limits are anticipated for the 1-ounce silver medals and clad medals. However, the gold coins and 2.5-ounce silver medals are expected to be serialized, with mintage limits and availability restricted to one year. Additionally, the clad medals are likely to be offered as sets of three rather than individually.
The U.S. Mint has also been in discussions with Marvel, exploring the possibility of expanding the Comic Art program to include coins and medals featuring Marvel characters.

Tom, UNITED indeed! I suspect these will NOT be a 2 minute sell-out, no matter how small the mintage.
Tom,
I always enjoy a good acronym. Kudos on that one!
Easy PASS!! No matter the Mintage. Headed down the same road as the RCM in Canada! The beginning of the End! You heard it here first!
These should be medals and many others should have been coins
raptOr,
Indeed, all the gold coins should have been paired with silver coins instead of medals.
“IN SUPERHEROES WE TRUST”
Going bats**t crazy, one Mint release at a time.
Kaiser,
I just saw the 1st Au FH privy coin has a bid of $160,000.00. Is that your bid?
Mine, with a $233,000 cap…. Repping Elon
You have $66,000 to go! I’ll bet Gibson wishes she’d thought of this way to suction dollars out of collectors hands earlier. She’s going to be laughing all the way to the bank (Treasury Dept.).
Craig,
I can’t afford that without a payday loan and as I’m retired no hope for one of those.
Kaiser,
I’m only watching their prices to see how much some are willing to pay for the privilege of possessing one. I’ll let others vie for them, as I have better ways to spend the lofty sums they’ll probably demand.
Craig,
It’s great fun to see who is going to throw away how much of their money. It’s like when people are willing to pay double for a GMC Yukon “enhanced” with no more than a Cadillac Escalade emblem; what a joke!
Kaiser Wilhelm,
We’re seeing numismatic rarity history unfold before our eyes. Reminds me of the Stella Four Dollar Gold coins. Stella! Stella! 😀
Antonio,
The main things unfolding are people’s wallets as they are opened to extract every dollar available in pursuit of ownership of these recently “manufactured” (in every sense of the word) rarities.
Right on point, brother!
Unless Adam West is portrayed as Batman, no interest. Burt Ward needs recognition as well. And where is Alfred my good man?
I am sure these will be sold at less than the mints price in a year or two at coin shows throughout the land.
Tony@GA and Kaiser recall the original Catwoman,
Where’s her coin!?
I’ve never been a “cat guy” but I would make an exception in her case Rick!
Rick,
Her purrness is 91 now, but I’m 77 so what’s a few years between pussycats like us?
Is she really 91? Seems like yesterday that I was watching that series…in color no less!
And she looks great for 91 too! Meow….
Craig,
I remember the dorm’s recreation room with its lone TV being filled to the rafters every week for this show. Great fun was had by all!
I guess they forgot about Superman. Anything is possible with the mint right now. Let your imagination run wild. We are despite for new designs and ideas.
look at the bullet point above just before the comments. the superman ‘sewer’ coin designs were already shown. ugh 3 designs each year for 3 years. Guess they are hoping will grab 1 and then be addicted and need to collect all 9! I had to look it up to see if such a character exists for DC superhero – I guess “invisible-kid”. if they ‘don’t’ show that on the coin/medal that might be an interesting one.
Super Trump to the rescue! Will he stop the madness?
I’d say the real madness is about to start.
I agree. As for these DC coins, it’s a hard pass for me. Like Tom Brady getting sacked.
Maybe they are trying to lure big buyers from the comic book market. Batman Comic #1 is the holy grail. Comic book prices are insane.
We should expect to see the mint at Comic-Con from now on out. But Comic-Con is such a strange bunch. The organization is heavily connected to big media though. Well, good luck to the mint on the Comic Coins. They are certainty comical. Someone will buy them. I myself won’t be a buyer as they go against my traditional numismatic disciplines as a traditional coin collector. But, if they are made of PMs, someone will buy them. Especially if they are certified and marketed as #1 and in a grade of 10.
https://www.comic-con.org/
Comic-Con ticket sales is about to begin. Their waiting room work OK but their ticket purchasing site melted down under the load last time. Today is the re-try day.
E 1,
You want insane, well someone paid $6.5 million for a banana taped, with a strip of grey duct tape, to a white wall. I thought the banana was treated so it wouldn’t rot, but no, the owner of this piece has to replace it after a few days with a fresh one. Over and over…WTF!
A PT Barnum Special. More money than common sense. That condition is more prevalent than you might think. Did you get his name? I have some coin collages I want to sell him.
Cheers
I think his name was something-something Bonzo IV. Fourth generation came from money.
Yup, It’s True! $6.2M Banana. Sotheby’s auctioneer in Manhattan Reports….
Insane. “Justin Sun from Hong Kong” is the dumb azz’s name.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/how-a-duct-taped-banana-sold-for-6-2-million/ar-AA1uwwow
Another International Crypto Currency Crook looking for a place to park his ill-gotten fortune. Think of all those starving homeless people in California. $6.2M could feed them all for a year. Take his wallet and lop off his empty head. Where is Robin Hood when you need him?
I would have done the same ‘piece’ and sold it to him for $500. Well, since he’s so stupid, make it an even $1,000! If this dude is going to be bidding on any of those privy Au FH’s, no one will stand a chance of getting any. $6.2 million?
It certainly shines a bad light on Sotheby’s and the Art Market.
https://www.sec.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2023-59
Looking for a better understanding of Crypto Currency? I recommend watching “Start Up” on Amazon Prime. Seasons 1, 2, and 3. You guys in Florida and the Silicon Valley might find this highly enlightening. I watched all three seasons non-stop and watched it again and again. I believe there should only be 2 or 3 legit highly regulated crypto currencies in the country and yet there are hundreds of them. If you want to get rich and famous beyond your wildest dreams, then start your own crypto-currency. It’s fairly easy and I don’t see it going away anytime soon. Maybe… Read more »
The buyer ate the banana.
Antonio,
The funniest part is that the lucky buyer didn’t even get the banana or the tape and certainly not the wall either. All he received for his 6.2 million dollars was a certificate that allows him to replicate this “artwork” at home and call it “Comedian”.
Like the song by Tears For Fears, “Mad World”.
From the video that follows it sounds like the purple label is essentially a detail grade in the numismatic world. CGC usually doesn’t like it if it is autographed unless the autograph is witnessed by a CGC representative or something like that.
E 1,
I’d add this one to my collection of numismatic exotica, esoterica, and ephemera.
If my preceding comment just happened to get lost in transposition, I’m referring to the above meme of The Flying Trumperman.
Don’t doubt the Mint will produce and promote a Donald Trump Superman coin. Such is fictional, so it could legally be done.
Kaiser,
Since things have become so comical with the comic coins. I thought I would just add some comedy of my own.
E 1,
Well, I could say this is how he actually sees himself but to keep the peace I won’t.
They recommended the busiest obverse. The simple one that looks like the TV show intro is the most simple and best of the obverses. I listened to the meeting and anyone having the time should listen to the replay on you tube. You’ll see why there is so much pc crap showing up. I’ll leave it at that.
I agree with a Pass on all the cartoon coins.
To the Batmobile Robin!
Golly gee, Batman!
The only superhero coins I am interested in are the
Washington & Lincoln ones!
Washington crossing the Delaware is such a classic superhero coin.
MAKE IT IN A 5oz PUCK
Agree Dave that design would have been great. But, if they did it NOW…. LIKELY $479.99, easy pass
sad to say, maybe the Mint has a trick up their sleeve to insure sales
100 of the superman will be colorized or something like that.
then watch how fast they sell out
Did they use the desig;where Superman is kissing a dude….pc Wokeamuck
So when do we get the Disney Coins? The coins for America’s greatest toys? And the coins commemorating TV’s greatest commercials? No thanks.
Toy Story characters. 😀
The question I have is: “why does anyone care?” Is this all that coin collecting’s about? Living for the next US Mint releases?
Major D,
See my comment at the top of the Wonder Woman article.
Sam-I-Am, good plan! I’ve switched over to Denmark, Norway and The Netherlands mints. Some good At War and History series of silver that each mint has put out.
Major D,
Thanks for the advice. I’m always interested in interesting coins!
Batman #1.
A better investment.
I switched mints. I am going with Banco de México. Picked up a couple of kilos today. Love the Libertads.
I bought several Perth Ag Kilos a few years ago and paid $554 for each. I see Magic Mike is hawking a 5 oz. Ag bar now for $599. What would he sell one with over 32 oz. for…$3800? What a world we live in!
Kilos from Mexico. Isn’t that what got Chong in trouble?
Major D,
That’s funny. Unfortunately the sad truth is that Tommy Chong spent time in prison for a rigged charge of interstate sales of paraphernalia, a case made courtesy of one of the most flagrant politically-motivated entrapment cases in US “law enforcement” history.
Yes, it’s a shame what happened to Tommy Chong.
I got to Nick & Tony’s Mint…..
Following up on the discussion about a possible special set of FHG and FHS, wouldn’t this have to be on the product schedule? Speaking on which, does anyone know when the 2025 schedule gets released? I tend to think that if there are any more coins and medals, they’re more likely to show up in late December, not part of any set. Otherwise, I suppose there’s an outside chance of the 2024 coins/medals showing up in special set in 2025. But I believe then it would need to be part of the 2025 schedule. Guess we’ll find out in another… Read more »
If there is any additional “releases” this year it would likely be covered in a US Mint press release.
The product schedule came out in Feb earlier this year.
No, as I recall the 2024 schedule was released in late 2023. So, 2025’s should be out before the end of this year.
Ventris et all, are determining how much MORE they can raise prices
Major D,
My guess is that this “set” is more a product of wishful thinking than Mint planning.
I think you’re right Kaiser
IMHO, the US Mint should really be working hard with Congress to try figure out a relatively easy process or streamlined way to submit ideas and get approval for monetized versions of silver product that they currently must issue only as Silver Medals. Not to allow for a flooding of the market, with incessant coins to be issued, however as a way to provide a more enticing, marketable and lucrative product for both the US Mint and end consumer. As it is now, even a commemorative coin that may be supported by many members of Congress, seemingly can literally take… Read more »
Big Government and efficiency do not go together typically. But, every once in a while, a simple stroke of a pen by the Prez can lead to a very efficient outcome. The Executive Order to open our southern border for an invasion is a good example, very efficient indeed! To monetize the current line-up of the Silver Armed Forces, Presidential, and a couple of popular replica Medals(to copy Porgan replicas) won’t do much for the USM monetarily, nor would it entice me to buy imo. But I could change my mind!?.. I’d say that the 30 or so Monetized Silver… Read more »
I see where you’re coming from Rick, however if we exclude finishes, I count 8 and feel there is room and market besides ourselves, that would possibly buy more or some of the upcoming products if they were to be coins Vs medals? The upcoming DC comic medals being a perfect example IMO. I might even jump back in, even though my finances say otherwise. I’d have never considered buying any of the Looney Tunes or Superman issues from the RCM 10 years ago had they been medals vs actual monetized issues. For a similar reason that I avoided, colorized… Read more »
I hear you too Cali, I’d certainly welcome the changeover of the companion Medals to coins bearing a denomination. The sheer delight that would be felt from Kaiser alone would be worth its weight in gold! The comic coins I’d be passing on, no thanks! I’ve purchased some RCM Maples in silver & gold 10 yrs ago, and they’ve appreciated nicely since. No-go for me on anything else from the RCM. I did purchase a few colorized Perth Ox coins way back when as a spot play, but I’ve recently sold those off for that same play. I thought I… Read more »
Good catch Rick! I’ll admit, I missed counting the 5 silver quarters and only accounted for a single quarter, dime and half, ASE, 2 commemorative silver dollars and the Morgan and Peace dollar. So now I’m up to 12, excluding finishes. Indeed when we include all versions in proof, uncirculated and reverse proof there are a lot of options! However many more collectors can squeeze silver coins into their budgets, vs gold, although we all know, gold coins have been carrying the bulk of the Mints windfall, for years. I still maintain the Mint uses creative accounting in how they… Read more »
“although we all know, gold coins have been carrying the bulk of the Mints windfall, for years.”
That’s true for Bullion, but not Numi.
Medal, Coin, Fungible token, digital key, any of these means squat as to buying these silly issues. Maybe if hey had the Fabulous Freak Brothers or a Fritz the Cat….. but IF FHS was a coin I would have got it….even @3x spot..heck sa,e basis FHG shoulda been $8,295….uh oh don’t wanna give the USM bean counter$ ideas
Give it a couple of years on the FHG after winning Coin of the Year along w/ L&B. $8295 will be cheap for a FHG. At 10,000 pcs that’s less coins than the Bronco coin…
Get FHG now for 4.5k before it doubles in 2 years…
Or am I crazy? Probably so…
Isn’t the mintage 9,996 coins?
Well Antonio,
If the sales reports(and the Mint)maintain that 10,000 coins ended up being the ‘true’ authorized mintange(to be revealed in the coming weeks)..
Then yes you’re correct, but no…
After the final audit is complete in 2-3 years(if lucky), I would venture to guess that the final mintage would be closer to 9,875 coins.
The remaining 125 coins may have never made it to market due to low quality, or returned for low quality more than once, probably both. They will be culled & melted…
I received a product flyer from the Mint in the mail yesterday and it advertises FHG for sale. I thought that was quite curious.
Or they’re not that bad and will get an early AM curtain. Call
Likely so, seems a lot of buyers shy off the $4,600 price many listed, pages and pages. I did see a FHG w OGP sold for $4,000 o flea bay a few days ago. A chinck in the armor??
So for this #$&@+£¥?!$! We get the 2 1/2z Au…really
Serialized? However, the gold coins and 2.5-ounce silver medals are expected to be serialized, with mintage limits and availability restricted to one year. What does this mean?
Not sure what you’re referring to Rooster. Serialized usually means that it comes with a coa identifying the coin/medal by a number out of the total made. Such as No. 501 of 7,500. RCM does this all the time. As for 2.5 oz medals the only one that I know that’s due out is the Space Force. Restricted to one year would mean that sales would end after one year. For instance, the commemoratives are restricted to the calendar year that they’re released. However, serializing doesn’t make sense if you’re restricting sales to one year- because you do not know… Read more »
Major D That is also my understanding of serialized. I should have mentioned my content was taken from this article on the Super Hero coins towards the end under the header ‘Series Background, Limits, and Future Expectations’.
Thanks. I see now. Wow- 2.5 oz silver medals seem out of place for these IMO. How do you go from Armed Forces to Super Heros? Kind of trivializes those Armed Forces 2.5 oz medals.
Back to the important stuff………$170K for FHG #1………18 days left

Yep, lookout E,
Let the fun begin!
The paragraph that’s titled “Striking Details” in the article below is quite interesting.
There’s been some confusion when you do the math on the Die count vs the number of coins struck.
The last sentence in that paragraph says “White said the first-struck, privy-marked Proof gold dollar, was produced with its own die set.”…
Is an absolute false statement imo…

Rick said: “Something else that rubs me wrong… Coin #1(a 70), and coin #3(a 69), both have their own cert #’s… YET SHARE THE SAME IMAGE!… Feel free to do a comparison of #1 and #3 TruView images yourselves!?” Granted, on the Sstack’s Bowers auction, for each coin, a stated disclaimer says: “All images, except for the PCGS holdered images and PCGS TrueView images, are for illustrative purposes only and do not depict the exact coin being offered.”. However what is more disturbing to me, is that when you then go and “verify” the coins on the PCGS website, those TrueView images are… Read more »

I cannot say Mint and “truth “ in the same sentence… more likely stock pix
Whoa! A severe beat down on Ag and Au spot price occurring on the Monday! A bit more than normal to say the least? I guess the inverse must be true, in that the stock market must be skyrocketing? Bitcoin has been flirting with $100K this past week! The numbers and fluctuations of these three very different markets fascinate me to some degree, however, not quite enough to fully jump in and learn the inside and out of how they are or aren’t interrelated and the correlations one should come to expect.
Could be risk appetite is on the rise.
Or as Forrest Gump would say, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
That’s a good one Antonio. But what if BitCoin goes to $250k over the next 2 years? That’s what some are predicting.

My only issue with the Working Dog commemoratives is that this is seemingly only aimed at a small segment and appears to only benefit, “America’s VetDogs”. Not saying it’s not a worthy cause, however I believe this should have been all inclusive, besides just dogs provided to ex military and first responders, emotional support/service dogs. What about the working dogs in the field, sniffing out bombs, drugs, cancer, strokes as well as other health ailments? Some would say, they are all the same, however they aren’t and there are many, many, many, different types of working and or service dogs.… Read more »
In throwing in my last $.02 on the topic of the Working Dogs Commemorative coins, there is only one potential saving grace that could be used to give the coins a potential small boost in sales? This caveat, that has been written into the legislation. “The measure calls for all products to be issued by one mint.” This does not stipulate that W has to be used. If they chose D to be the Mint used exclusively, this would perhaps create a unique offering that typically has not been used to produce gold or silver commemoratives, if my memory serves… Read more »
