2026 Robin Designs Recommended for U.S. Mint Coins and Medals

Candidate designs featuring DC’s Robin — Batman’s loyal protégé — for a 2026 release in the U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program have been unveiled and reviewed. The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) considered the designs on Sept. 16, followed two days later by the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA). Both panels supported the same obverse but preferred different reverses — mirroring their split decisions on the 2026 Green Lantern designs.

Robin is among three DC heroes slated for recognition in 2026, alongside Green Lantern (designs) and Supergirl (designs). Introduced this year through a collaboration between the Mint and Warner Bros. Discovery, the multi-year program will spotlight nine iconic characters. Its inaugural lineup features Superman (designs), Batman (designs), and Wonder Woman (designs).

Similar to this year’s designs, the 2026 lineup will feature 1/2-ounce 24K gold $50 coins and 2.5-ounce and 1-ounce silver medals, with clad medals carrying the same designs expected the following year. Each superhero is represented by a shared obverse and reverse across all formats, with minor differences — such as the omission of required coin inscriptions on medals and the absence of dates on the 1-ounce silver and clad versions, since they are not limited to a single year of issue.

Robin Obverse Designs

Obverse designs feature iconic depictions of Robin.

Design O-03 was selected as the overall favorite by both the CCAC and CFA, and it also ranked as Warner Bros. Discovery’s top choice. The image shows a sharp and focused Robin swinging forward with the aid of his rope.

Robin Reverse Designs

Reverse designs emphasize the themes of fearlessness and loyalty, expressed through imagery that connects Robin’s story to American values and culture.

The medal versions share the same designs, though they standard coin inscriptions, including “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$50,” “1/2 OZ.,” and “.9999 FINE GOLD,” and instead feature the inscriptions “ROBIN” at the top in place of “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” with “FEARLESS AND LOYAL” near the top or along the bottom.

The CCAC selected R-01, which depicts Robin standing guard in front of a vault, with Batman’s shadow looming large in the background — a nod to his partnership as one half of the Dynamic Duo. The CFA, however, observed that Batman’s shadow detracts from the narrative focus on Robin as the primary subject.

Instead, the CFA favored R-04, which was also Warner Bros. Discovery’s first choice. Illustrating Robin’s backstory as a circus acrobat, the design presents a commanding Dick Grayson center stage, soaring through the air on aerial straps high above a crowd, while his mother looks up proudly from below. The committee suggested adjusting the contrast, detail, and hierarchy of the scene so the audience appears more recognizable.

Upcoming Releases

Sales opened on July 27 for the Superman coin and medals, followed by the Batman issues on Sept. 25. Wonder Woman products are set to launch on Nov. 13. Bronze medals for all three are planned for 2026, along with Green Lantern, Robin, and Supergirl products, while The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman are scheduled to join the lineup in 2027. Additional comic themes are planned if the series continues into later years.
