Batman is making his numismatic debut. The United States Mint has released the official designs for the 2025 Batman coin and medals, expanding its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program dedicated over the next couple of years to DC Super Heroes. Collectors got their first look during the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Oklahoma City, where high-quality images of the designs were unveiled. Products are scheduled to launch this fall.

First introduced in 1939, Batman has endured as a cultural icon and symbol of resilience, intellect, and moral courage. The Mint’s new designs capture that enduring legacy. On the obverse, he is shown leaping into action to protect Gotham, while a stone eagle watches from above as a symbol of vigilance.
The reverse underscores his role as Gotham’s watchful guardian: Batman appears in silhouette against the city’s skyline, the Bat-Signal shining above as a beacon of justice and courage.
The obverse was created and sculpted by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph F. Menna. The reverse was designed by Medallic Artist John P. McGraw and sculpted by Menna.
Design Context
Before the designs were finalized, candidate artwork was reviewed in November by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA). Final selections were made by the Treasury Secretary in coordination with those recommendations, the Mint, and Warner Bros. Discovery representatives.
Comic Art Coin and Medal Program Overview
Rolled out this year, the Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program features three Super Heroes annually, with every design issued in multiple formats: 1/2-ounce 24K gold coins, 2.5-ounce .999 fine silver medals, 1-ounce .999 fine silver medals, and clad medals. The gold coins and 2.5-ounce silver medals are produced in limited numbers, while the 1-ounce silver and clad pieces carry no fixed mintages.
Earlier Releases and What’s Next
The program opened in July with Superman products, which remain available, and continued this week with the unveiling of Batman and Wonder Woman designs at the ANA show. Both are scheduled to launch this fall.
Looking ahead, the Mint announced six more heroes joining the series: Green Lantern, Robin, and Supergirl in 2026, followed by The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman in 2027.
