These three collectibles mark the launch of the U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin & Medal Program. Issued in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, the series will celebrate three DC Super Heroes annually over three years.

Today’s featured offerings include the following Mint-designated pre-order products:

  • Comic Art 24-Karat Gold Proof Coin – Superman™ — features 1/2 troy ounce of 99.99% gold
  • Comic Art 2.5 Ounce Silver Medal – Superman™ — struck from 2.5 ounces of 99.9% silver
  • Comic Art One Ounce Silver Medal – Superman™ — contains 1 ounce of 99.9% silver

All three share the same core designs on both the obverse (heads) and reverse (tails).

Designed and sculpted by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna — a former DC artist — the obverse features Superman soaring above his family farm, a tribute to the values instilled in him by his adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2025" on the gold coin; "LIBERTY" and "2025" on the 2.5-ounce silver medal; and just "LIBERTY" on the one-ounce silver medal. All three also include the artist’s initials.

The reverse, designed and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Joseph V. Norwegian, depicts a young Clark Kent reflecting on his future as his father watches nearby — a scene emphasizing the dual nature of Superman’s identity. Inscriptions vary by version: the gold coin features "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "$50," 1/2 OZ.," and ".9999 FINE GOLD"; the silver medals include "SUPERMAN" and "HOPE AND STRENGTH." The artist’s initials appear on all three.

Clad Medal Included in Mint’s Comic Art Coin & Medal Program

As noted, the Superman collectibles are the first releases in the U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin & Medal Program.

The program will feature three DC Super Heroes annually through 2027, with upcoming releases this year depicting Batman (see recommended designs) and Wonder Woman (see recommended designs). Each year will include a gold coin, a 1-ounce silver medal, and a 2.5-ounce silver medal featuring the same core designs.

In early 2026, the Mint will offer a set of three non-precious (clad) medals — one for each of the first three characters: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. This set will be a standard offering of the program, to be available after the launch of the individual products for the third character each year.

Numbered Certificate of Authenticity

The gold coin and silver medals are encapsulated, presented in a display case, and accompanied by a Mint Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The 1/2-ounce gold coin and the 2.5-ounce silver medal include a numbered COA.

Ordering, Prices and Limits

Pre-orders for the Superman gold coin and accompanying silver medals will open through the U.S. Mint’s online store, via the page dedicated to its Comic Art Coin & Medal Program.

The 1/2-ounce gold coin’s price debuts at $2,710.00, with this price subject to weekly adjustments based on market conditions. The 2.5-ounce silver medal is listed at $275, while the 1-ounce version is available for $135.

Mintage limits are set at 10,000 for the gold coin and 25,000 for the 2.5-ounce silver medal, while the 1-ounce silver medal has no stated limit. During the first 24 hours of pre-sales, household order limits are capped at one per customer for both the gold coin and the 2.5-ounce medal. Shipping is expected to begin by early fall.

Subscriptions Available for All 1-Ounce Medals in Series

Announced earlier this month, subscriptions are available for the 1-ounce silver medals. They are currently limited to five per household. By signing up once, subscribers will automatically receive the next 1-ounce silver medal released in the series after their registration date, and will continue to receive future releases until the subscription is canceled or the series concludes. The Mint is extending the subscription cutoff date for the Superman medal through September 22, 2025, allowing the subscription window to remain open until the product is ready to ship.
