Last week, the United States Mint began selling its 5-coin proof set of 2025 silver quarters honoring Ida B. Wells, Juliette Gordon Low, Dr. Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, and Althea Gibson. Released on April 22 for $95, the set posted six-day opening sales of 27,768 units, representing 79.4% of the possible 34,980 sets and making it the Mint’s best weekly seller.

For comparison, last year’s still-available set – now priced at $95 – debuted at $80 and registered six-day opening sales of 33,792 units. Most recently, it saw a weekly gain of 42 units, bringing its total to 34,376.
The 2023 set, which also launched at $80, opened with five-day sales of 38,782 units. It remains available at $95 and most recently added 14 units, raising its total to 46,183.
Looking further back, the 2022 set opened with sales of 57,735 units, was not available for long, and ultimately settled at 57,769. It held advantages, including a lower starting price of $73 and the distinction of being the first to feature silver quarters honoring American women – marking the launch of the Mint’s American Women Quarter™ Program.

Updated: Several errors in the “Silver Proof Sets” section have been corrected.
Count me thoroughly confused.
2025 Silver Proof Set 170,078 170,178 100 0.06%
What? Is there a mistake here? Am I missing something? Has my subscription been deactivated? Are these presales?
I thought this release got pushed back to … whenever.
Someone please help this make sense to me.
Reb, the U.S. Mint still has the 2025 Silver Proof set listed with a TBD release date. Strictly a guess, that these are subscription sales and they are getting ready to deliver them very soon? They had pushed the 2025 AWQ’s Silver Proof Sets back previously and then, bam, they released them. Make sure any who wants them or doesn’t want one or more of these sets, to check your account CC expirations, subscription activations or status and or sign up now. These will be gone, llickety split, once they go on sale, if the dealers, don’t snatch them up… Read more »
Cali, I think this may be no more than a US Mint cluster on their production reporting. I wonder if this 2025 silver proof set gets deleted on next weeks report. Who knows. But you have a good guess and stranger things have happened at the mint.
We apologize — the errors in the “Silver Proof Set” section were ours and have since been corrected.
Thanks for correcting, and a big thanks for providing this comment venue.
I second HarryB’s sentiments. Thanks for everything you do. I love the articles and appreciate the additional info I get from the comments.
2025 AGE four-coin set release date price = $7,182.50
2025 AGE four-coin set price today = $7,922.50
What a difference a month makes.
And I thought I’d lost my mind paying $5055 for the 2021 4 coin Au proof set! They are still only using 1.85 oz. of Au ($6110 at current spot) right? That’s a $1720 premium!? The mint is showing the price for the 4 coin Au Proof set at $7830.
Looks like they dropped one gold pricing level today.
Another milestone achieved. The 2025 United States Marine Corps 3-coin Proof Sets have now eclipsed the 2024 Greatest Generation and 2024 Harriet Tubman 3-coin Proof Set sales from last year. With potentially 6 plus months of sales to go depending on how many were actually minted?
Got a 1999 D Delaware quarter in BU today in change at Wendy’s. One large ding on each side, but fantastic cartwheel and detail on the horse and rider. A keeper for sure!
DaveSWFL, thanks for sharing your find! I love finding and stories of finding coins we all like to keep, out of ordinary change on cash transactions!
DaveSWFL, I’d say its coin collecting at its finest when you can find specimens in the wild at the cost of face value. I just found my 13th W quarter as well as two more silver quarters (1945 and 1954) in coin rolls from my bank last week. The Ws were in Fed rolls whereas the silver in customer wrapped rolls. In addition, many pristine MS ATB and AWQ that look proof like. You never know what you’re going to find unless you look for it!
Very cool, Major.
CaliSkier previously said “The show I’d previously mentioned is the “Raleigh Money Expo” June 27-29 in Raleigh at the Exposition Center, NC State Fairgrounds, 4285 Trinity Rd Raleigh, NC 27607″. I will try to be there! It sounds like a lot of fun, and I can always use more education, especially in modern American collecting. Most of my collection is ancient and old World coins, as that’s what I inherited from one grandfather. My other grandpa had old US silver, but nothing special as far as I can tell. I’ve only added a few pieces; not much knowledge behind those… Read more »
Sounds good Sam-I-Am and we can help each other out in some form or fashion education wise. I’m mostly a modern guy due to what I received from my father, early 70’s through 2008. Then my own purchases from 2008-2020. Also quite a few Royal Canadian Mint Silver coins from 2008-2020 as well. Only purchases in last 4-5 years were the USM uncirculated sets. U.S. Mint price increases, turned me off, in conjunction with a major change in disposable income. I still have a big interest in coins however and at some point look forward to re-starting my purchases of… Read more »
I’d probably head for the 1909-O. But that’s me and my last year of a Mint obsession speaking. It’s pretty pricey.
A more affordable fallback would be a coin from the first year of issue – 1908. The D half eagle is in your range. That was only Denver’s third year of operation.
Almost forgot, thanks Reb for your support and advice on Indian coin! Too bad we won’t be able to meet up at the Raleigh show…. Take great care!
@AKBob from earlier article posting – I have some comments based on the pic of the Nickel on NGCs website. I believe this is a mint state nickel struck with proof dies. My reasoning is as follows. Many times in the 1800s, the proof dies were later used to strike mint state coins. Many of these used/worn proof dies had die clashes. This is one way to tell 1800s proofs from mint states where the proof dies were later used for regular production to save costs. The mint state coins will exhibit this clashed die on one or both sides.… Read more »
Reverse
Is the green highlighted a scratch?
The red circle appears to have some die clashing.
The red circle area appears to have some die clashing of the hair and ear.
This appears to be the ear clashed on the V circled in red.
The ear and hair area highlighted…
Just a heads up Sharks2th. In the previous thread I said: “PS There is a 75% chance of the 1890 V Cent/Nickel coin being a PF65 and a 25% chance at being a PR64. That is the grade assigned to what was being offered(4 1890 V Cent coins in total) in the Vault Box Series X. Facts…. NGC Values your physical coin received, at $350 and $550 respectively. BTW Last 4 auctions range from $264-$300 and $348-$432 respectively listed on NGC.” I’ve included the link to the Vault Box X Series Distribution list if curious about what they were offering.… Read more »
Thanks Cali. If I could see the coin with more pics it would be easier to judge. I have also seen the grading companies get attributes wrong as well. I collect a couple of 1800s series so I’ve seen a number of mis-attributed coins. If this one is a proof and the fields have finger oil and not scratches/porosity, then I could see this as possibly a PR-64.
Thanks E1, Rick, Kaiser Wilhelm, Coin News//Admin/Mike Unser, for showing your true colors! The Red, White and Blue is not honored here, nor is Peace, Peace making, truth, honesty, integrity, taking the high road, Freedom of Speech or the 2nd Amendment. John Q Coinage and Cag were censored earlier today as well. Had an intervention occurred by the powers that be, I’d never had felt compelled to stand up, be strong and callout those creating a hostile environment. I guess my 4/28/25 post, “STOP! SERIOUSLY….” comment to quell or squash the non-sense was too harsh. My efforts apparently weren’t appreciated… Read more »
No, Cali, your peace-seeking posts were appreciated. I have a feeling Coin News needed to take out a ton of garbage and in the process, a couple of stray papers near the can got tossed too. I haven’t looked as I rarely look back more than a couple of days, but I suspect some of my posts also disappeared. No problem because 1) I’m a visitor in this house and 2) I’m always looking forward to new articles and posts anyway. Please don’t take this action personally. Your input is valuable and appreciated here. I know it’s frustrating to put… Read more »
REB, well said. Thank you.
It’s great to see the Admin respond. I agree with you REB about not needing to keep old posts. However, I really do appreciate that Coin News keeps its old articles available for look up. It’s a tremendous resource!
100% agree Major D. The old articles are handy for looking up issue day prices and mintages especially. I have used them when updating my list of past purchases and what I paid versus the issue price.
Good point on release prices, sharks.
Thanks, you run a great venue….i prefer this format to NGC, Etc…
I’ll second that Harry B. The format allows interjecting off-topic comments across a range of articles. But the downside is that it has fostered cliques, soapboxes and devotees that can take-over, drown out and discourage others from commenting. It appears to be cleansed at the moment, like in the aftermath of a good rainstorm.
I was 100% behind what you said Cali. I wish I had screen saved the text. I have had some of the people with less verbal control go back to old posts and make sarcastic and derogatory comments as well. Hopefully the clean up by Admin will make this a positive place to share comments and knowledge for all of us to benefit from. I’d be happy to meet up with the friendly people here at Raleigh if I get down that way or up in Baltimore if any of the Carolina guys get up that way. As I said… Read more »

Cali, thanks for your notable efforts and contributions. In parting, I also see you as the Man in Motion in “St. Elmo’s Fire,” there where the eagle’s flying higher and higher. Best wishes…
Cali…. Cag and I were censored? What was said…..?
Cali, I too am saddened to see you leave. I hope this isn’t just a knee jerk reaction. I totally get why you’re feeling this way too. I’m confused as to “why” or what you had even said that should have been censored! We may not always agree with each but I definitely respect you, we have disagreements with our Families & Friends too and we don’t write them off. I’m NOT writing you off! Not yet any who’s, lol!! I know, I use the lol way too much, lol!! Sorry, had to say that only as a parting joke… Read more »
Cali,
I don’t think that you were censored at all imo. It’s unfortunate that you thought that your call-out-comment was trashed. I think admin deleted all comments that had KW in them, even a reply that had KW in it had to go. I, like others saw nothing wrong with your ‘censored’ post and agreed with it FWIW. You’ve been wearing your true colors on your sleeve for more than 15 years on blogs, so thanks the reminder above.
I’ll see you soon.
