Got my 2025 clad proof set on Tuesday. Very nice!
Congrats, Jim M.! It is a beauty, isn’t it!
Mine came in a box vs a bag. Nice touch!
I can’t even imagine how a bag would/could protect it. Boxes only, please!
I agree Jim M! I was surprised by how nice the NA$ looked in proof.
All Right Now. I had a feeling you might be back with this latest CN U.S. Mint Sales report.
Hey Rich, great song by Paul Rodgers/Free. Did you notice that the 2025 Marine Silver Proof has already surpassed 2024 Tubman, 29,902 vs. 25,850 (when including the 3-coin)? The clad proof will likely be next, as it’s at 17,929 vs. 18,257. And speaking of the 3-coin, it’s at 4,308 vs. 4,440.
Welcome back, Major D! First Jeff Legan reappears and now you have returned also. Most certainly a cause for much celebration all around; let the festivities begin!
Kaiser,
You swear you’ve heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on and
No need in bringing ’em back
‘Cause they’re never really gone
-Three Dog Night
Before you know it, you’ll be singing in three-part harmony.
Funny thing about those dogs, I heard all three sing at the same place but not together. It’s a long story ….
“Three-part harmony”; good one!
Your story, REB, sounds like one of those “should be easy but turn out to be very hard” word puzzles. Okay, I give up already.
Major D,
I very much enjoy this musical theme swirling in and around the comments and threads here, and I really like the song samples that are being offered. The one by Three Dog Night is another winner!
Fun with numbers, from 2 threads ago! So coming in 1st place by a landslide was Kaiser Wilhelm with 73 of 214 comments or 34%. Next up was Rick in 2nd place with 23 posts or 10.7%.. Tied for 3rd were Reb amd E1 with 19 each or 8.87%. I was next up in 4th with 18 posts and 8.4%. Then we had Antonio with a respectable 5th place, with his 15 posts and 7%. Next up in 6th we had Cag with 11 and 5%, followed by John Q in 7th and his 9 posts for a share at… Read more »
There are now 235 comments, CaliSkier, with a good number of the additions having come from yours truly. To sum up, OCD + PTSD x Insomnia = Lots & Lots.
Don’t forget to use the Order of Operations in computing that number, Kaiser. PTSD X Insomnia first, then add in the OCD!
Otherwise, you’ll need to put the sum in parentheses 🙂
I know about as much pertaining to the Order of Operations, DaveSWFL, as I do regarding the proper application of past participles in Pre-Babylonian hieroglyphics, but I thank you kindly nonetheless for the math advisory. Ironically so as it turns out, my faulty equation was on the woefully incomplete side anyway, so I’ll make another feeble attempt at both amplifying this equation and correcting aka cleaning it up. PTSD x Night Terror Panic > Insomnia + Agoraphobic Anxiety/OCD = A Whole Lotta Nuttin.
Get some sleep, Cali! This is WAY too much work for you too late at night.
P.S. – I think it’s fitting that E1 and I shared the bronze. Or was that bronzer?
The Styx song “Too Much Time on My Hands” comes to mind.
Not to mention “Time is on My Side” by the Rolling Stones.
Then there’s “Out of Time”, also by the Stones.
Several different takes on a similar subject, each great in its own way.
Kaiser, there’s a slew of them. Among many others,
“Time Has Come Today” by The Chambers Bros.
“Time” by Pink Floyd
“Time” by The Alan Parsons Project
and my favorite, “Ain’t Wasting Time No More” by The Allman Bros
Quite clearly, Major D, time is a popular topic among songwriters. And by the way, those are some excellent examples of exactly that.
Forgive me if I’ve mentioned this before but “Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East” is one of my all-time favorite live albums.
Lest I forget, “Time of the Season” by the Zombies. This was a far and most unfairly so underrated group whose music I really enjoyed.
Today I opened a 300 share position in GLD @ $269.41 ($80,823.00) in a traditional IRA account.
Tomorrow I will liquidate my 300 share GLD position and 1000 share SLV position in a taxable account…
Good for you. And somebody cares because……???????
Rick said in a previous thread: “I did some digging, grabbed the scarce 4 coin Spouse box of 2007, conversion capsules, and the 4 beauties encased in NGC plastic. You know what I’m going to do, so stay tuned…” Rick had or have you considered p/u a wooden aftermarket box instead, that holds 4 NGC holdered coins vs cracking those coins out? Wizard is one company that sells said box. Also, no mention if you happened to have picked up the original COA’s? When and if you go to sell, keep in mind that many buyers want the “whole enchilada”/OGP,… Read more »
Yes, the 4-slab wood box had been considered, bought, and filled with another PF Subset! There’s a soft spot in my heart for the Liberty Subset, as I’ve purchased at least a dozen of them(6-PF/6-MS)all in ’09-10. I’d converted several slabbed sets to the scarce 4 coin box and sold them with quite the fanfare 14 yrs back. They were affordable back then($7-900 ea.).. This(soon to be)raw set is for me to convert & keep, along with at least one slabbed PF & MS set. Besides, those old NGC solid-core slab’s have got to go(not my preference). Yes, GC requires… Read more »
I got the 1936-D SC Sequi coin from S&B today. The coin still has its problems but darned if the thing doesn’t look better in person than online. Has that been your experience with auction wins? Better live than digital? Just wondering what the feeling is out there with auction-won coins.
Good to hear REB.
I’m glad that you like it, I do. Again, lots of character, and great history with that old building in SC. The nickel certs are neat.
Yes, many times the coin looks better in hand. One reason may be that the hi-rez(& zoomed)online pics pick up flaws in greater detail, allowing scrutiny to creep in? Once in hand, the nitpicking fades away, as the flaws are barely noticed now. The physical weight plays a part in the psychology as well. Justification is easy after that…
Just look at those precious metal prices rise! I have to wonder though if this correspondingly means the dollar and stock market are fighting for their very lives.
My view –
I never get excited about gold & silver “ going up (or down!). They are like God – always there, always steady and dependable, will always take care of you!
Currencies are like gods – somebody makes them up and sooner or later you realize they are all relatively worthless regardless of how much they are worshipped.
I love your second line there DaveSWFL
DAVESWFL, I’d add that you can’t count your chickens until they roost. I’ve known several paper millionaires that ended up with far less after their stocks tanked and never rebounded. As the fine print often says, past success does not guarantee future results.
It’s hard to imagine how so many Americans failed to anticipate that a long litany of past failures might well have been construed as a fairly clear indicator of the direction of future outcomes. While it’s true that only some asked for this new reality, unfortunately everyone has to now pay the piper.
You have me both totally perplexed and seriously confused, DaveSWFL. Unless I am completely missing something, your two statements appear to be in direct contradiction of one another and I am as such left with not having a clue as to which of these two disparate and opposing views you in fact actually endorse.
Reb said in reference to the First Spouse Gold Coins, a couple threads ago: “I wish the spouse set would continue with Mrs. Carter. But. I don’t see that happening in the next four years.” Well here you go Reb! Looks like your wish will be granted more than likely! From our friends over at CoinWorld, by Paul Gilkes titled: “Presidential coin extension sought among new legislation” Excerpt and link below. “S. 633, introduced Feb. 19 by Sen. I’ll believe it when I see this legislation passed by both houses of Congress and signed by the president. Until then, I’ll shake the urge to cross my fingers too tightly.
The most interesting (yet, hysterical) bill was the one introduced by an Alabama Republican honoring the “Black Panthers”. Huzzah! Bipartisanship!
REB,
Well, that explains a lot. I thought for sure that he wanted to honor the movie!
Breathe…OMG, Yikes, Crikey, Holy Franklin Ship! I hate to even bring this topic over here and know that it will for sure fire people up, not necessarily in a good way. I’m in utter disbelief and ready to loose my ship, as this should NEVER, EVER, HAPPEN, let alone be proposed! MAJOR WTF! Someone would have seen this and brought it up, so don’t shoot the messenger….I will let you all hash it out…. However I encourage A TON of self restraint by any and all feeling the need to start attacking each other and getting overly aggressive or nasty…… Read more »
Cali-
It seems unlikely to me (strictly my opinion) that the required change to the statute would make it past both houses. If the Senate can’t pass a CR to keep the US Gov’t functioning, I don’t think it likely that this amendment would make it, either. I’ll withhold any opinion as to the merits of such amendment for another time.
Sam-I-am,
Excellent call on both components of this issue. Gold star for this one!
No biggie and not to worry, CaliSkier. Those $250 bills will likely be scooped up just as fast as they are printed by newly grateful American billionaires intent on upgrading to this more distinctive bathroom tissue to go with their marble sinks and golden faucets.
LOL.
Nothing but the best for Elon and his crew. Just don’t let Don know about it.
No worries, CaliSkier- I won’t take the bait. Since we’re onto songs in this thread, I’ll add “Ain’t Wasting Time No More”
What a primo series of “Time” songs we’ve assembled here. Another real classic from back in the day is The Chambers Brothers “The Time Has Come”.
How about Feels Like The First Time and Time In A Bottle
Rich,
Now this is what is meant by “being on a roll”. You’ve certainly got my vote in the good memory department!
Talk about literally “being on a roll.” The best is a Kaiser roll (aka Vienna roll)…
If lifetime back-bencher Joe “You Lie!” Wilson introduced this, it’s got to be stupid. He’s perhaps the dumbest man I’ve ever met in my life. That said, a special $250 bill released next year only and new one-year coin design changes aren’t terrible ideas. The themes/portraits should harken back to 1776. Of course, there are the usual suspects, Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton, etc. How about a DEI choice like Deborah Sampson, Nancy Hart, or Crispus Attucks (whom my college professor described as “a thug”)? And what of Paul Revere, Nathanael Greene, John Hancock (one of my ancestors on my mother’s side… Read more »
“There’s a reason why living people shouldn’t appear current money. I’m sure there was a time when it seemed like a good idea to slap Benedict Arnold’s visage on a dollar coin.”
REB,
You’ve hit the nail on the head with those statements, most especially so with the latter providing a rather apt and precise example of what could go wrong.
Kaiser, Sorry if I confused you. God with a capital G refers to THE God who is, was, and always will be – constant in nature, always dependable, and never losing His value. On the other hand, gods with lower case g refers to things which are made up by man, undependable in the long term, and ALWAYS losing value in the long term. Hence, Gold is like God, and currencies are like gods! Gold stands the test of time(REAL money) as an ounce of it has always bought a man a fine suit (be it armor or silk). Fiat… Read more »
Love how you articulate God – I’m with Kia – good stuff sir…. Better stated: True sir!
It more than helps, DaveSWFL, since it not only speaks to my specific question but provides a very thorough explanation of your beliefs in this particular regard. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort; I do appreciate when a question gets such a well-expressed response rather than simply being ignored!
My pleasure. And God bless!
Thank you, and likewise!
Reminds me of a quote by Robert Kiyosaki – Gold and Silver are God’s Money. He also says, “Bitcoin is People’s Money.”

Rich,
Not only that, Rich, but each time two neutron stars collide many millions of tons of gold are created to add more to the universe of that precious metal.
And it goes something like this…
I originally purchased 300 shares of GLD on 02/05/2024 @ $186.955 = $56,086.50 in Roth. I originally purchased 1000 shares of SLV on 02/05/2024 @$20.435= $20,435.00 in Roth. On 03/12/2024 I sold 300 shares of GLD @ $201.49 = $60,447.00 in Roth. On 03/12/2024 I sold 1000 shares of SLV @ $22.34 = $22,340.00 in Roth. On 03/12/2024 I took the nuclear option and purchased in a taxable account. On 03/12/2024 I purchased 300 shares of GLD @ $201.57 = $60,471.00 in taxable account. On 03/12/2024 I purchased 1000 shares of SLV @ $22.35 = $22,350.00 in taxable account. Today… Read more »
Total Federal Taxes owed on the entire profit of $35,261.50 will be a maximum of $4,349.40 or 12.3% on my original 02/05/2024 cost basis of $76,521.50.
Even though GLD and SLV are both taxed as collectables because they are backed by physical Gold and physical Silver, disregard the 28% tax that so many people quote…
By waiting 1 day to make sales on both GLD and SLV I saved $2,609.64 or 9.0% on Federal tax bill.
Not surprising – after all, you ARE an astute financial advisor!
You’ve just proven, cagcrisp, the fallacy in the old truism that the only two things that are certain in life are death and taxes. It’s now clear that while death still can’t be avoided, taxes on the other hand are not nearly as sure and final.
To keep in step with time, a couple other timeless ones, perhaps some may recall? “Time Stand Still” by Rush and the other by our “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”’ artist, “Time after the time; colorful on Cyindi Lauper! “Time stand still — I’m not looking back — But I want to look around me now See more of the people And the places that surround me now” Neil Peart Cyndi Lauper with Rob Hyman “If you’re lost you can look and you will find me Time after time If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting Time… Read more »
“Time After Time” was a #1 record.
And every bit deserving of it.
“Time Stand Still”. Neal Peart. Great song by one of the greats. R.I.P.
Several years back my wife and I saw Cyndi Lauper perform with the Boston Pops at the annual 4th of July Charles River Esplanade Concert; she was as fabulous as ever. “Time After Time” gets me every time!
First Spouse Gold: The Liberty Subset.
More digging, and more surprises, well sort of.
I found my 4 slab presentation box, and now that I think of it, I bought this PF Liberty set that included the box back in 2011 ish.
It all looks fine, but the mismatched NGC white cores still bother me. Solid vs edgeview. I prefer to see the edge of the coin, so either re-holder for edgeview, or crack-em out for that raw presentation.
My remaining Liberty inventory is a bit off! We have the Proof Liberty’s in the display case up top, the MS-70 set down to the right, and 3 of 4 Proofs at lower left. Why I didn’t get the Buchanan Liberty Proof a decade ago to complete the PF set is beyond me–now it seems outrageous to pay 1500+ for the Buchanan Gold! There’s an MS70 Jacksons Liberty in the PCGS slab off to the side for good measure. I had started another MS set with the Jackson coin, and got distracted it seems. Time flies when you’re having fun!
