These coins are the newest release in the U.S. Mint’s four-year series of American Women Quarters™. The program debuted in 2022 and includes five new quarter designs annually, each celebrating the accomplishments and contributions made by women from the United States.

Honored on this newest program strike is Patsy Takemoto Mink, a 24-year member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Hawaii. Mink is noted as the first woman of color and the first Asian-American woman elected to Congress.

"As a Member of Congress, the Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink fought for gender and racial equality, affordable childcare, and bilingual education," describes the U.S. Mint. "Mink was the champion of Title IX legislation in Congress, prohibiting sex discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Title IX was posthumously renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act."

Patsy Mink passed away in 2002 at the age of 74.

New Quarter Products and Prices

Three different U.S. Mint facilities provide the coins included in this new release. Buyers have various product options to choose from:

  • Two-Roll Sets containing 40 quarters produced at the Philadelphia Mint and 40 quarters produced at the Denver Mint
  • Three-Roll Sets containing 40 quarters from Philadelphia Mint, 40 from the Denver Mint and 40 from the San Francisco Mint
  • 100-Coin Bags where buyers have the choice of 100 coins from either the Philadelphia or Denver Mint

Mink quarters have also been released into circulation through the Federal Reserve Bank system. However, circulation coinage for the nation only comes from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, while the San Francisco Mint exclusively strikes coins for numismatic purposes, such as those found in three-set rolls, making them more desirable to collectors.

Patsy Takemoto Mink Quarter Designs

Appearing on the quarter’s reverse (tails side) is an image of the Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink holding her landmark "TITLE IX" legislation. She is shown wearing a lei representing her home state of Hawaii, with the south wing of the U.S. Capitol Building, home to the U.S. House of Representatives, behind her.

Inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "PATSY TAKEMOTO MINK," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "25 CENTS," and "EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN EDUCATION." The design was created by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Beth Zaiken and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist John P. McGraw.

A common obverse (heads side) design appears on all quarters of the American Women series. It depicts a portrait of George Washington, the first U.S. President. This image was created by artist Laura Gardin Fraser to mark Washington’s 200th birthday in 1932. Obverse inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2024."

My subscription for the AWQ PDS rolls has shipped. Despite the lower demand I’m still going to finish out the series with the rolls, since it’s a real pain to find them at banks or in the wild.

In looking at the Mint’s commemorative pricing I see that the Tubman 3-coin proof set did not go up after the intro pricing ended as it’s at $873, same price as the GG. I wonder if the GG 3-coin set will likewise stay at $873 after tomorrow. If so, no need to place an order before 3 pm to beat a price hike.

Major D, if all you are buying is the 3-coin Tubman/GG set, you have until next Wednesday to purchase. This is due to the Federal Register notice stating: “Products containing gold coins will be priced according to the Pricing of Numismatic and Commemorative Gold and Platinum Products Grid”. Those prices should go up(?$885.25) next week(Wed), unless gold tanks between now and then. $12.25 up or down charge according to the US Mints Pricing Range Table. Thanks, CaliSkier. I’m aware the gold price is adjustable but didn’t know the date of adjustment. My point on the Proof 3-coin was really that even though the gold proof, silver proof and silver half each went up individually after the intro pricing ended for Tubman, the price of the 3-coin was not adjusted for that- and there’s a slight price break to be had. The 3-coin set is still $873, the same price as the intro. Individually, the Proof $5 gold for Tubman is now $759.75, Proof $1 Silver is $87, and the Proof Half Clad is $54. Each… Read more »
