Everything is down today, except for the cost of living.

Caliskier

You know what Antonio? You are correct! Check out this US Mint Press Release from today! Notice anything funny! LOL INCOMPETENT! Wait that was supposed to be PERIOD. Todays “US Mint Press Release” you can’t make this stuff up? Again, What base was “Who” on? See anything wrong with this picture? “The rolls and bags product options include: Priced at $40.00, a bag of 100 uncirculated clad quarter dollars minted in Philadelphia (product code 23WBA). Priced at $40.00, a bag of 100 uncirculated clad quarter dollars minted in Denver (product code 23WBB) Priced at $36.00, a two-roll set containing a… Read more »

What we rather peculiarly and more than a touch amusingly find ourselves in the midst of here is a combination of confusing events, Caliskier, since as far as I am able to discern you and Antonio are not even talking about the same article and/or issue. Antonio was commenting on the across the board fall in precious metal prices today and you are referring to the fact that the Mint’s email announcement regarding American Women Quarter sales still shows the original rather than the new product prices. “Who” might just be on “second” here.

Caliskier

Alright, so sorry Kaiser Wilhelm. I was simply taking Antonio’s post of “Everything is down today” and trying to interject a little humor, by tying in with the “downward” posted price in the US Mints “Press Release”, which I found amusing, as they just raised prices and now post a Press Release, with a lower price, after the fact. Also, I figured since this article pertained to US Mint sales and showed the previous released 2023 Ohio AI, that Bessie’s release was close enough and the Price increase fiasco, fresh enough, that it would be ok? Guess I was wrong:… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

Why apologize? I meant what I said about being grateful.

Kaiser Wilhelm

I guess I didn’t get the connection the first time since I was far too obsessed with what I had discerned to be a “discrepancy”. Lesson learned! 🙂

Kaiser Wilhelm

Antonio, I just have to ask. Did you by any chance mean for your comment to appear in response to today’s precious metals report, which is the subject of the article preceding this one, rather than for this subsequent Mint sales totals column?

Antonio

The current price/value of precious metals/futures. No mention of the Mint, since the stock market has no knowledge of Mints in it’s buying and selling of metals. Not to be confused with bullion medals, which are a different matter altogether. The Mint’s confusing press releases are humorous though.

Kaiser Wilhelm

I’m sorry if my comment sounded nit-picky, Antonio, most especially so because I do value your precious metal commentary. In fact, you are the only participant here who is consistent in keeping that column alive for the rest of us. And yes, there are those separate bullion reports and the occasional “retro” press releases and along with all of that the Mint’s apparent inability to ever quite get all of its gold and silver ducks in a row.

Caliskier

Couldn’t help but notice how little your comments on this article contribute to furthering dialogue on this article/topic Kaiser Wilhelm? Hail Kaiser Wilhelm oh Master Moderator! LOL Back to coins and on topic of this sales report. Did anyone notice and or can you explain the sales of 200, 2019 US Mint Proof sets that just so happened to be the same as follows? “The 2019 United States Mint Proof Set® contains 10 proof coins, each bearing the “S” mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco.New in 2019! Kaiser Wilhelm

That first sentence shouldn’t end with a question mark; it’s a statement. LOL.

Kaiser Wilhelm

The real issue and/or problem for me, Caliskier, is that sometimes I just don’t understand what one might imagine should be so very easy to comprehend.

Caliskier

Crazy Kaise; not sure why, but I almost feel like that is a quote or should be,(?) from Winnie the Pooh?

Kaiser Wilhelm

It certainly can be if you want it to, Caliskier; I won’t object. Besides, in my own inextricably messy corner of existence, I am pretty much compelled to make everything up as I go along anyway.

Antonio

Brings to mind the five 1913 Liberty nickels which happened to appear a few years after 1913.

Kaiser Wilhelm

With apologies to the Fab Four,
“Look at all the lonely nickels, where do they all come from?”

Kaiser Wilhelm

Yep, Caliskier, it does seem I went more than a bit off the tracks with those rather gratuitous “mother-hennish” admonitions; yikes! By the way, I haven’t a clue as to where the 2019 US Mint Proof Sets in the Sales Report came from. However, since we’ve all seen the Mint manage on more than one occasion to pull a rabbit out of its hat, perhaps the true revelation in this instance is that we still have the capacity to be surprised at anything the Mysterious Mint does.

Caliskier

1st of all, thanks again for welcoming me Kaiser Wilhelm and engagingly, being a genuine pleasure to interact with! I am the newbie here and although I’ve read many of your posts and should have just rolled(haha, get it coin rolls) with your posts, I for some reason felt compelled to call out the proverbial “pot”? Id elaborate further, however since wokeism is alive and well, I’m afraid to repeat what was said of the “kettle”. I only hope to be entertained, educated, as well as entertain and add something to the dialogue pertaining to coins, more often than not.… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

You’re most welcome, Caliskier; it’s genuinely a pleasure to have you here. By the way, I’m glad you opted for the “Mischievous Master of Word Play” as I’m more than happy and rather pleased to be able to wear that moniker.

Caliskier

On another related topic I’d like to talk about(?) ask some questions, having to do with the US Mint Platinum product sales and the US Mints Precious Metals Price Range Table. Why aren’t numismatic or bullion for that matter, when it comes to US Platinum products selling better when you look at US Mint premium to spot price as compared to Palladium and everyone’s favorite PM, Gold? Especially if compared to, say the Royal Canadian Mint? Anybody have an actual, scientific, quantifiable reason why the US Mint can offer a 1 oz Pt coin for only $545 over spot, yet… Read more »

REB

Shhhh … I’m planning on buying the platinum proof in a couple of weeks. Don’t let the Mint know that it should be charging me more.

Antonio

Reminds me of the time I bought a proof W Buffalo gold one ounce coin for $999 when gold was going for more than that price for an ounce at the time. I jumped on the opportunity, as did many others.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Antonio,
I never knew that such things actually occurred, but good for you! 🙂

Caliskier

Not sure how long you’ve been at this coin thing Kaiser, however I think Antonio is referring to this time period; 14 years ago? What he describes is directly related to this US Mint announcement from 2009. I remember the “buzz” as that’s right when I jumped into the “fray”/water; luckily feet first, vs head first! Numismatic and bullion spot pricing, prices to consumer converged. Next came the inception of the now “infamous” Price Range Table” the high prices just keeps going up and up and up and…… another “up” is coming very, very, very soon!(Days-week or 2, at most?)… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

Well, there we have it, Caliskier. While I have been collecting coins since 1957 I didn’t engage with the US Mint until 2017, clearly a bit later to put it mildly. Truth be told, I can’t recall why I decided to add the Mint to my coin sources, but what I do know is that ever since I did so it has evolved into my primary provider.

Kaiser Wilhelm

That’s an amazingly beautiful coin, REB, so it’s hard to not be jealous, but I’ll try. 😉

Kaiser Wilhelm

Unless I am sorely mistaken, Caliskier, the Royal British Mint has the same propensity as the Royal Canadian Mint to charge more for its precious metal coinage (especially all those other than silver) than does the US Mint. But that’s just the “what” of it; as to the “why” I haven’t the foggiest notion.

Last edited 7 months ago by Kaiser Wilhelm
Caliskier

Actually, I’m pretty sure you know why Kaiser Wilhelm, as you mentioned it early in your comment. It’s not called “My Precious” for any ole’ reason! These coins cost more as they must be made with a similar alloy, to that of the “One Ring” to rule them all”? Or something like that assuredly?

Kaiser Wilhelm

But that would mean, Caliskier, gold, platinum and palladium are in fact rather more “precious” to the British and the Canadians than they are to the Americans, which leaves me with the sense that I’ve somehow managed to circle back around to where I started with my original question.

Caliskier

All I can say to that Kaiser is you are beyond a doubt one of the “Really Good Ones”! Not saying you don’t have your own fallacies or issues, however a) we won’t go there, b) Beyond a shadow of doubt, not having ever met you personally, I can tell you have a very “High Set “ of standards you follow when it comes to morals, ethics and integrity, answering to yourself is of great, great importance! Thanks for sharing and showing your true colors and not being afraid of “What others” think! I know for myself, I struggle at… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

As best as I can tell from your description of your thought processes, Caliskier, it seems that we are, the two of us, both blessed and plagued simultaneously by the same issue, to wit, that no one else ever has the occasion to judge either of us more severely and harshly than we are regularly given to judging (and occasionally severely castigating) ourselves. We attempt to reach for the heights in regard to always being at our finest and most noble, or at least as what we imagine and/or understand that to mean, and when we succeed in that good… Read more »

Tom

And suddenly quantity available =49 under subscription for the 3 roll women’s quarters. Either a bunch of people unsubscribed, or the mint has released some they were “holding in reserve”. if you look under current product it indicates 12531 available, which we know is bogus. As I recall a few days ago that figure was 12570 or something like that, which would be the max mintage less 50. And now suddenly 50 more are available under subscription. Just thinking out loud that the figure under subscription is slightly less than than the max available. But who knows

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tom,
It seems I wasn’t the only one to drop my AWQ 3 Roll Set subscription upon deciding it was too pricey for my collecting budget. I also dumped the AWQ Proof and Silver Proof Sets as those are included in the Annual Proof and Silver Proof Sets. I also cancelled my three ASE subscriptions since all that changes is the date. I’m down to the basic annual sets and the Peace and Morgan Silver Dollars and I reserve the option to cancel those also. Coin collecting has become a point of financial wear; that outweighs any pleasure.

farandulard

“It is interesting to note how the number of women’s quarter rolls available under subscription has declined precipitously, suggesting that many people may have canceled their subscription or that the mint has released some units that they were holding. In addition, the The fact that the figure indicated on the actual product is clearly incorrect raises some doubts about the transparency of the long-term subscription process.

Kaiser Wilhelm

At 2:25 PM EST on 02/21/23 the AWQ 3 Roll Set shows zero available.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Addendum: It appears this zero availability for AWQ 3 Roll Set Subscriptions applies to all five of the coins being released this year.
