Sales for one of the U.S. Mint’s core numismatic products, the 2022 Silver Proof Set, topped 200,000 in the three months since its release.
The set of 10 proof coins, with 7 of them composed of 99.9% silver, saw its sales rise 3,805 to 201,195, making it the Mint’s third best weekly seller.
For comparison, last year’s set through three months logged sales of 215,477. Still available, it rose another 2,190 in the last week for a total of 294,668. It was the Mint’s fourth top weekly seller.
2022-S Proof Silver Eagle Drops
Standing out, 2022-S Proof American Silver Eagles saw a significant decline. The bulk sold 40-coin option (product code 22EM040) dropped 341 units for a total of 13,640 coins and the single option (product code 22EM) fell 289.
As for the 2022-W Proof American Silver Eagle, the single option (product code 22EA) experience a modest reduction of 12 while the bulk option (product code 22EA040) posted a sizable gain of 324 units or 12,960 coins.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 266 numismatic products. Sixty outperformed their prior weekly gains against 99 previously. Six products increased by more than 1,000 units against 7 in the prior report.
In addition, 20 products registered negative weekly sales compared to none in the last sales report. The reductions ranged from 1 to 341 with the latter tagged to the already mentioned bulk-sold 2022-S Proof Silver Eagle.

As far as I am concerned, the annual Silver Proof Set is the “Rose Parade” of the Mint’s annual sets. I’ve been collecting them since the early 60s (sorry, that would be the 1960s for all you kids) since I was a kid. I keep meaning to go back and see how they are aging in those plasticine packaging … given all the degeneration in the coins by some reports … but haven’t looked at my first set in years. How about the GSA Morgan dollars?

I bought a CC Morgan from a dealer and it looks very nice. Clear field and almost frosted portrait with only a few contact marks. Comparing the two, I prefer the originals to the contemporary Morgans. I really like the Peace dollars though. Never bought the Ikes, as I felt they were over priced at the time. Did buy a silver proof Bicentennial set and a couple of uncirculated silver Bicentennial sets. Been buying ASEs since 1996 and British Sovereigns since 1995. My silver is holding nice without tarnishing but I have a foreign silver coin that has tarnished along… Read more »
The Authorized Bulk Purchasers are going nuts this year with the 2022-S and 2022-W Proof ASE bulk 40-coin option orders and returns.
Based on the “data available” numbers, either the Mint adjusted their numbers tremendously or a bunch of the 2023 Morgan/Peace dollars were zapped up in one day. I looked yesterday and then again today just for grins

At least at this time, with subscription, some of us who simply are interested in collecting 1 or 2 of an item have a chance, as opposed to fighting the mad scramble on the day of release. If 75,000 of a coin are subscribed to in one day, the mint should have some idea what is going on.
I did a quick calc on the 2023 Morgan/Peace dollars. The ‘massive’ sale appears to be 25% of the total for each of coins.
