The United States Mint kicked off sales last week of their 2022-W American Proof Silver Eagle. It was released Thursday, April 14, in three options — by itself, in 40-coin packs for bulk buyers, and as a part of the 2022 Congratulations Set.
Expectations had been for no or very limited availability of the standalone coin (product code 22EA) as the U.S. Mint noted a week earlier that all had been reserved in enrollments. However, cancellations and order reconciliations freed up some 60,000 by release time. Those were eventually all claimed by Friday. Mint sales through Sunday had the single-coin option at 490,947. Further reconciliations should free up more on occasion as the Mint said it would sell 500,000 of them.
The 2022 Congratulations Set (product code 22RF), which includes a 2022-W American Proof Silver Eagle held in special packaging, was also unavailable by the day after its release. Mint sales show 29,972 of the allotted 30,000 sold.
Finally, the 40-coin option (product code 22EA040) reached 3,826 units for 153,040 of the potential 166,760 coins reserved for bulk buyers.
Altogether, sales so far of the 2022-W American Proof Silver Eagle total 673,987 coins (490,947 for product code 22EA + 29,972 for product code 22RF + 153,040 for product code 22EA040). That’s 22,773 shy of the 696,760 reserved for all three product options.
In the fall, the U.S. Mint will offer up to 50,000 Limited Editions Silver Proof Sets. This set will also include a 2022-W American Proof Silver Eagle.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 225 numismatic products. Fifty-seven outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 50 previously. Not counting the three newest products to compare apples to apples, 1 product increased by more than 1,000 units against 4 in the prior report.
In addition, 25 products registered lower sales compared to 27 in the previous sales report. The reductions ranged from 1 to 3,498, with the latter tagged to the recently released 2022 Proof Set.

Congratulations Sir Kaiser, you’re back in usual form being first on (SENZA should be around soon to bestow upon you a marvelous and most deserving award). The Mint sure moved a lot of high-demand 2022-W ASE Proofs. It’s already looking like a banner-year for Mint sales.
Sir Kaiser, I agree with your assessment on the 2019-S ASE Enhanced Reverse Proof (product limit = 30,000), and if I may add on to that, the 2020-W ASE V75 Privy Proof (product limit = 75,000). The 2020-W AGE V75 Privy Proof (product limit = 1,945) had such a ridiculously low mintage and so few available for purchase that even the BOTs were probably ineffective. I think all of those coins went directly to the Mint’s favored dealers, as they disappeared in less than 60 seconds.
I snagged the 2020 ASE V75 proof coin Rich – lot of work getting that. Got kicked off Mint website, taken out of my cart several times, banned from Mint website at times but prevailed in finally securing! 🙂
Too bad my diligence dealing with Mint website for Morgan CC Silver Dollar that got taken out of my cart didn’t secure it for me. Was only able to purchase the Morgan O one 🙁
I had the same experience that day, Chris, and barely managed to snagged one with time running out. I also was able to snag the CC and O Morgan Dollars on release day, but only through lucky timing when the homepage finally unfroze and I hit “place order” at just the right time.

This may be true but I have nothing to reference back to. I can only comment on my experiences so far and dealing with the mint is certainly not easy or pleasant. I am not ruling them out but sometimes it is just easier to get what I want after the fact from other sources for a small premium.

I received notice that my order for the 2022 proof ASE on backorder has been cancelled. Next day, I received an e-mail that the coin has shipped and is on its way. What is going on with the mint. Must be a lot of returns
Yes, the same thing happened to me. I ignore that cancellation email. The last time I responded, I was informed that the email was sent in error and to disregard it. This time I did that and the next day received my shipping email. Since I’ve worked for the U.S. government, I’m used to this kind of thing. Although my tax return came to me promptly.

That blood curdling SCREAM you had to have heard at about 10:40AM Pacific Time today (4/25/2022) was mine. I just opened the 2022 ASE Proof that had just been delivered and THE COIN DROPPED OUT OF ITS BOX! One side of the plastic coin enclosure wasn’t even in it! Thanks for sharing and sorry this happened to you. All of mine were ok. These proof coins were better off in the clam shells for sure. The plastic holders seem of a lesser quality than in the past. The employees today are not like the past either. The last two conversations on the phone regarding the free shipping for the loyalty program had them either lying to me or totally misguided. Received mine yesterday and it looks very nice. No plastic case issues or foreign objects on the coin. Now to send it to be graded.
