Last week, the United States Mint introduced a set of quarters honoring Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C.
Frederick Douglass Quarters Three-Coin Sets launched on Monday, April 24, for $9.95. The collector product includes an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint. The set logged opening sales of 9,415 for a 2 unit increase over the start of this year’s first release which contained quarters commemorating Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa.
Both sets, however, started slower than those from last year. The five 2016-dated three-coin sets opened with:
- 10,261 sets for the Fort Moultrie in South Carolina,
- 10,030 sets for the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota,
- 9,723 sets for Harpers Ferry National Historical Park of West Virginia,
- 9,638 sets for Cumberland Gap National Historical Park of Kentucky, and
- 10,086 sets for Shawnee National Forest of Illinois.

The U.S. Mint published sales data for 280 numismatic products. Eighty-three outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 26 previously. Two of them increased by more than 1,000 units versus 1 previously.
In addition, seven products saw their sales total reduced. That compares to 3 previously. Most of the reported declines were modest (10 units or less). The only exception was the 2017 Proof Set, which fell 13,177 to 210,329.
