Two gift sets made their first appearance in the U.S. Mint’s sales report, the 2017 Happy Birthday Coin Set and the 2017 Birth Set.
The new birthday and newborn sets launched a week ago Tuesday, Jan. 10. Sales of the birthday set opened at 2,766 while sales of the newborn set debuted at 2,419.
These starts are stronger compared with last year’s releases — 524 higher for the 2017 Birth Set and 570 more for the 2017 Birthday Set. That said, such comparisons are mostly irrelevant given that special occasions are their sales driver and those happen throughout the year.

- 2016 Roosevelt Three-Coin Set (+554 to 14,123)
- 2016 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set 542 to 35,603)
The U.S. Mint published sales data for 243 numismatic products. One hundred and six of them outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 27 previously. Seven of them increased by more than 1,000 units compared to 5 previously.
Eighteen products also saw their sales total reduced compared to 14 previously. As typical, most of them logged modest declines. The three products to fall furthest include the 2016 50c NPS Proof Coins, down 103 to 40,261; the 2016 50c NPS Uncirculated Coin, down 298 to 21,030; and the 2016 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set, down 619 to 14,764.
