Two gift sets for 2016 made their first showing on the U.S. Mint’s sales report, but what’s more interesting is the slimmer report itself with 49 fewer products.
It appears that the Mint is tidying up some in preparation for newer releases. It also likely means that the totals reported a week earlier for those now missing products are final until audited figures become available later down the road.
Debut of 2016 Gift Sets
The new birthday and newborn sets launched last Wednesday, Jan. 6. Sales of the 2016 Birth Set opened at 2,242 while sales of the 2016 Happy Birthday Coin Set debuted at 1,849.
These starts are mixed compared with last year — 177 lower for the 2016 Birth Set and 295 higher for the 2016 Birthday Set, but such comparisons are mostly irrelevant given that special occasions are their sales driver and those happen throughout the year.

The U.S. Mint published sales updates to 204 numismatic products compared to 253 previously. Forty-six of them outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to 145 previously. Three of them increased by more than 1,000 units compared to 6 previously. Six had their sales reduced compared to 12 previously.
