US Mint June Coin Production Surges, 2010-D Nickel Mintage Added
The United States Mint published coin production figures for June that soar past prior months, capping four straight monthly gains.
If coin production reflects the U.S. economic landscape as it seems to have in the past, it would suggest mounting improvement. The Mint's coinage output in June was more than four times that of January, and 1.4 times more than its May's run.
With six months of 2010 now in the history books, nearly 2.83 billion coins have been struck. In contrast, 3.548 billion were minted in all of 2009, suggesting 2010 could top last year's production in a few short weeks. US Mint Sales: America the Beautiful Quarters Products in Spotlight
Aside from the Pierce coin cover launched last Thursday, the newest America the Beautiful Quarters™ Products were the biggest unit gainers in the latest round of United States Mint coin sales figures. But numismatic issues were very lethargic over all. Bullion American Silver Eagles, however, were popping like fireworks on the fourth of July.
Of the released 2010 quarters products, the proof set earned the title for most wanted, posting weekly sales of 5,103 and bringing their total to 156,212 since issued on May 13. The silver set, which launched on May 27, was a step behind with an increase of 3,585. It scored a total of 126,912, or 44.5 percent of the 2009 silver quarters set level which is still on sale. That set advanced 593 to 284,884.
