US Mint Sales: Silver Coins Rise, Gold Coins Slow
Sprinting past all other collectible coins to easily become the U.S. Mint sales leader in just three days were the American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars.
Nearing 100K from their launch last Thursday through to Sunday, 66,209 proof and 32,149 uncirculated coins were ordered -- very sound starting numbers. Compared to last year's commemoratives, the debuting level was a bit more than half that of the popular Lincoln Silver Dollars, and more than double that of the Louis Braille Silver Dollars. The Lincolns eventually sold out. The Braille's did not, but their figures were solid, nevertheless.
In other products... Both silver sets outperformed their previous weekly gains. The US Mint Silver Proof Set rose 2,687 to end at 664,885. The DC & US Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set climbed 930 to finish at 273,541.

Legislation Proposed to Place Ronald Reagan on the $50 Bill
A newly introduced House Resolution, if passed, would replace President Ulysses S. Grant's portrait on the $50 bill with an image of President Ronald Reagan.
The President Ronald Reagan $50 Bill Act, numbered H.R. 4705, was introduced by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) on February 25, 2010.
"Every generation needs its own heroes. One decade into the 21st century, it's time to honor the last great president of the 20th and give President Reagan a place beside Presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy," said Congressman McHenry. "President Reagan was a modern day statesman, whose presidency transformed our nation's political and economic thinking."
President Roosevelt is featured on the dime and President Kennedy on the half-dollar.

American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar Sales Near 100K in...
The latest United States Mint weekly sales report is out and the numbers reveal collectors purchased a solid 98,358 of the just released American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars in three days.
The first of two commemorative silver dollars to be issued this year was made available by the US Mint on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at noon Eastern Time. The coins pay tribute to Americans who became disabled for life while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper dollars are struck in both proof and uncirculated condition and are available for introductory prices of $39.95 and $33.95, respectively.
As is nearly always the case, collectors preferred the proofs -- this time by a more than two-to-one margin in the early going with 66,209 proof silver $1s purchased. On the flip side, 32,149 uncirculated coins were ordered. The time frame for the reported figures was from Thursday to Sunday.
