2010 American Silver EaglesThe United States Mint's most recent sales figures for bullion American Silver Eagles paints an interesting picture for the series. They show easing demand in August while still taking a giant step closer to making 2010 the best year ever for the .999 fine silver coins.

The U.S. Mint registered 2,451,000 orders in August. The amount, while impressive when compared to a typical month in nearly any year, was nonetheless the second lowest monthly number so far this year.

Gold Eagle August 2010 Bullion Coin Sales Slide

American Eagle Gold Bullion CoinFalling to levels not seen in two years, bullion 2010 American Gold Eagles apparently lost some favor with precious metal investors last month.

August sales are listed at a modest 41,500 ounces, according to the most recent sales figures from the United States Mint. This is the total weight of gold coins sold to the U.S. Mint's network of authorized purchasers for all bullion Gold Eagles, including the one ounce strike as well as the three fractional 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/10 ounce sizes. In comparison, the month before (July 2010) saw a total of 152,000 ounces purchased.

2010 Proof Gold American Eagles in Production for October Release

The United States Mint is already producing and will sell four different sized proof Gold Eagles later this year, U.S. Mint spokesman Michael White confirmed Tuesday, September 7.

However, 2010 Proof American Silver Eagles are still in question.

An exact date is yet to be announced but the one-ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce and tenth-ounce proof 2010 Gold Eagles are expected to launch in mid-October, according to White. The bullion one-ounce version has been available since January 19, 2010, with the fractional bullion sizes released on June 10, 2010.

The U.S. Mint in late June provided the ceremony dates for all of the remaining 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters™, but the new information provides specific details for those planning on attending the latest quarter release.

The Mint and the National Park Service will kick off the fall season by introducing Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park Quarter on September 21 at 1:30 p.m. (MST), on the park's South Rim, between Hopi House and Verkamp's Visitor Center.
