US Mint Clarifies Product Availability, Adds ‘Sold Out’ Status

2

It’s now clear when a United States Mint product has sold out. The agency created a new status for its online catalog that actually shows the words if a product is no longer available.

To know if a product was gone for good previously, a website visitor had to jump into a product page that was listed as "Out of Stock" and then look for a red statement in the description area that said:

"This product is sold out and no longer available for sale."

The new "Sold Out" notice is based on actual inventory, taking into account cancellations and other factors, so any product under that flag will not return for sale. It adds to other online product statuses that include:

  • Back Order,
  • Out of Stock, and
  • Out of Stock/Remind Me.

United States Mint definitions for these availability notices are:

  • Back Order: When products are in "Back Order" status, this means that the product is available for sale, however there is no inventory in stock and a future ship date is displayed on our website. Products in this status can still be ordered online or by calling Customer Service at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

  • Out Of Stock: Products in "Out of Stock" status with no "Remind Me" button are not available for sale. If product becomes available through additional production or cancelled orders, the product will be made available for purchase again.

  • Out of Stock with "Remind Me" button: When products are in an "Out of Stock" status with a "Remind Me" button, there is no inventory currently available, but additional inventory is likely. Products in this status cannot be ordered, but by clicking the "Remind Me" button you can request to be reminded by email when product becomes available.

I’m wondering if the 2 coin kennedy set sold out, or its just out of stock. The coin and currency set on the mint web site states its out of stock, however you reported on last week’s total , that they sold out.Is that the same for the 2 coin kennedy set?

May, I think it’s very likely the two-coin Kennedy 50c clad sets are gone. The U.S. Mint hasn’t yet published the latest weekly sales figures as of Dec. 21 but there were only about 5,200 left by Dec. 14. Recent weekly sales for the set have been more than double that.
