February finds collectors with several new coins from the Perth Mint of Australia with both continuing and debuting series.
One of the new series, featuring the theme of "Gods of Olympus," has already attracted series interest. It includes high relief coins struck from two ounces of silver and in very limited mintages. The first one depicting Zeus became unavailable within hours of release, apparently selling out.
Koala coin collectors will want to check out a new one ounce issue. It offers the original 2014 koala design, but adds life-like coloring to the marsupial.
The Perth Mint’s Lunar series sees two new coins for February, a one ounce high relief gold proof coin along with a five ounce silver proof coin.

2014 Zeus High Relief Silver Coins
The Perth Mint introduced its new "Gods of Olympus" series on Monday with the 2014 Zeus High Relief 2 oz Silver Coin. A bearded Zeus is seen on the reverse of the coin with a thunderbolt in one hand and scepter in the other. Perth Mint artist Tom Vaughan created this mythical scene.
This release is struck from two ounces of 99.9% pure silver and is featured in high relief. In addition, an antique finish is used to enhance the unique image. Mintage is limited to 1,500.
Subsequent "Gods of Olympus" coins will depict Poseidon and Hades.
The coin is unavailable on the Perth Mint website. As of this writing, there are some through Downies.com for AUD $179.
2014 Australian Koala Silver Colored Coins
The popular annual silver koala coin program is expanded by the Perth Mint with the release of the 2014 Australian Koala 1 oz Silver Colored Coin. Shown on the reverse of each coin is a colored image of an adult koala.
Composed of one ounce of 99.9% pure silver to a mintage based on demand, each comes attached to an illustrated presentation card.
2014 Proof Year of the Horse High Relief Gold Coins
The 2014 Year of the Horse 1 oz Gold Proof High Relief Coin is offered as the newest issue in the Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series II program. Each is struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold and has a legal tender face value of AUS $100.
Shown on the reverse is a high relief design of a single horse galloping in a mountain and cloud scene. This coin ships in an oval-shaped display case with a glossy timber-effect lid. Worldwide mintage is capped at 388 pieces.
2014 Proof Year of the Horse 5 Oz Silver Coins
Limited to a mintage of 5,000, the 2014 Year of the Horse 5 oz Silver Proof Coin is composed of five ounces of 99.9% pure silver.
The reverse shows two standing horses in a stylized Chinese landscape. Each coin is presented in a gray Perth Mint display case and ships inside an illustrated shipper along with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
2014 Proof Lioness Silver Coins
The 2014 Lioness 1/2 oz Silver Proof Coin is released as the first coin in a new heart-warming series named ‘Mother’s Love’. Reverses show a mother lioness licking her cub.
This coin is struck from one-half ounce of 99.9% pure silver to a large diameter of 36.6 mm. The limit is restricted to 4,500 for this product option with a maximum production of 6,000.
2014 Proof Tasmanian Devil Silver Coins
The 2014 Tasmanian Devil 1 oz Silver Proof Coin appears as the fifth release in the Perth Mint’s Australian Opal Series. As the name of the series implies, the coin contains an inner panel of pure Australian opal.
On the opal, the image of a Tasmanian Devil is found. Adding uniqueness to the series, a light in the coin’s display case turns on as it is opened. The mintage is limited to 8,000.
2014 Gold Rush Gold and Silver Proof Coins
Appearing as the first releases in the 2014 The Land Down Under series are the 2014 Gold Rush 1 oz Silver Proof Coin and the 2014 Gold Rush 1/4 oz Gold Proof Coin. The two strikes offer different reverse images of individuals panning for gold.
Mintage of the silver coin is capped at 5,000 with no more than 1,000 gold proof coins issued. Future program releases will include Great Barrier Reef coins, Australian Stock Horse coins and Rock Fishing coins.
Coins of the series are housed in an Australian map-shaped latex case.
2014 ANZAC Royal Australian Navy Submarine Service Coin
The 2014 ANZAC Royal Australian Navy Submarine Service Coin is offered as a tribute to the submarine service and those who embody the spirit of ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps). ANZAC Day is celebrated annually in Australia.
A portrayal of a photo image of the AE2, an E class submarine commissioned in 1914, is shown on the reverse along with a group of submariners. This coin is composed of aluminum bronze and is attached to a 2014 ANZAC Day presentation card. The mintage is unlimited.
