Available from the Perth Mint of Australia is the 2013 Kookaburra Silver High Relief Proof Coin. This coin is struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver to proof quality with high relief imagery.
Issue limits for this release is capped at 9,000. An additional 1,000 may be issued as part of other product options leading to a maximum mintage for the strike of 10,000.
The high relief of the proof coin allows for enhanced detail on the designs and offers another option for Kookaburra coins from the Perth Mint. The series itself dates back to 1990 when Kookaburra Silver Bullion Coins made their debut. It was not until last year, however, that the Perth Mint released a high relief proof version of the series.
Kookaburras are part of the Kingfisher species and are native to portions of Australia and nearby New Guinea. The birds can grow to be relatively large (up to 42 cm or 17 inches) but are likely most well known for their call. Many liken it to the sound of human laughter.
