2012-P Acadia Silver Coin, 2012 Harrison $1 coin products

Along with new products, proof silver coins stood out in U.S. Mint sales figures

Newly released products are in focus but sharp gains in proof silver coins also steal some attention when looking through the latest round of weekly U.S. Mint sales figures.

With silver prices blasting off this week — currently up about $2.75 since Friday, U.S. Mint silver products could be in the limelight yet again next week. That is, if the Mint does not suspend their sales for re-pricing.

2012-P Acadia National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

Out last week were Benjamin Harrison Presidential $1 Coins and the 2012-P Acadia National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. The latter helped support silver coins, at least the older five ounce coin as each improved. Their combined sales were up 1,042 compared to the previous 745.

As for the debuting 2012-P Acadia uncirculated coin, its one-week total hit 6,552 for a slighter better start than the previous two issues. Read this coin news article for a concentrated sales look across all of the 2011- and 2012-dated silver coins.

Proof Silver Coins

Demand spiked for three proof silver coins. Two were commemorative coins. The proof Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollar shot up 868 compared to the previous 421, and the proof Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar ran up 807 versus 293.

2012-W Proof Silver Eagles made a stronger run as well with weekly sales of 9,542 against the prior 4,632. Its total hit 562,268.

Making American History Coin & Currency Set

Released on August 7, the Making American History Coin & Currency Set debuted with sales of 24,130. The set, which contains a $5 bill and a 2012-S Proof American Silver Eagle, rose another 6,769 during its first full week of availability. Total sales are at 30,899, which is 61.8% of the initial 50,000 production and 30.9% of the potential 100,000 units.

Benjamin Harrison Presidential $1 Coins

3.4 million Benjamin Harrison Presidential $1 Coins were sold by the U.S. Mint between its Thursday release and Monday. Most collectors preferred rolls of the dollars followed by the 250-coin boxes. Overall sales were down a bit from the previous coin honoring Grover Cleveland’s first term. Read this coin news article for more details.

Harrison dollar rolls were the best unit sellers for the U.S. Mint.

US Coin Sales: Bullion Coin Products

Sales over the past seven days have been stronger for U.S. Mint bullion coins. Improved Silver Eagle gains were a bit modest considering the quantity that tends to move throughout the year, but demand for the America the Beautiful five ounce bullion silver coins rose sharply. Buyers also ordered significantly more gold bullion coins.

The following table offers a breakdown. The latest seven-day sales period covers through to Wednesday, August 22, 2012.

Mike U –
Any reason why sales for the 2012-S Proof and Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle aren’t listed anywhere?

Joe August 23, 2012 at 8:32 pm

Yeah that would be nice to know.

Mike Unser August 24, 2012 at 12:55 am

Jim, we can add them. Unfortunately, the U.S. Mint will not provide updated weekly figures for the 2012-S American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Proof Set beyond the initially published 251,302.

jim August 24, 2012 at 1:27 am

Mike –
Then maybe with a comment or asterisk since we know collectors cancelled their orders because they were upset with the mint adding another 50,000-100,000 proof coins with the subsequent coin and currency set. And we have two numbers, one for the proof coin and another for the reverse proof coin.

Thanks for the answer to the ? Mike.
